Exercising

My wife and I are looking to tone up certain areas of our body and are looking for exercises we can do. She has a Y membership but I prefer to work out in the privacy of my home.

She's looking to tighten up her butt and thighs. I'm looking to tone my abs and pecs. She runs a couple miles a day and uses an elliptical machine for about an hour (I think). I'm lazy and haven't exercised in forever (hence the onset of the beer gut).

Any suggestions on what we can do?

Also, any suggestions on how I can keep myself motivated to work out? I've tried to start exercising several times but I always seem to lose interest and revert to my sedentary lifestyle.

Thanks in advance.

See the fitness thread. Spot reduction is a myth; you have to lose fat in order to get rid of a beer gut, or cellulose around the butt and thighs. Your stomach is usually the first place fat goes and the last place it leaves if you're a guy; boobs, thighs, and butt are generally the first place fat goes and the last place it leaves if you're a chick.

Basically, eat right and exercise. HIIT is probably what you're looking for as far as cardio goes, and a weightlifting regime to go along with that would help a lot, but isn't strictly speaking necessary.

In order to stay motivated I have to be doing something I really enjoy. It used to be moutain biking, then polo, but I'm going to get back into mountain biking soon because polo died off where I live and sitting in gym is totally not for me.
