On the making of treats.

Can you make rice crispy treats out of puffed rice? Or do you have to crisp it, and if so, how?

I want to make something like popcorn balls out of rice.

Yes, any puffed rice cereal will do fine for making rice crispy treats, you don't have to 'crisp' it or anything like that. After you combine the marshmallows and the puffed rice, scoop it out, wait for it to cool a bit, then shape into balls. I'd recommend you use wax paper, as the melted marshmallows can get a bit sticky.

nah, we just already have puffed rice. I don't wanna go buy another box.

I believe rice krispies are puffed rice that's toasted.

OP:

You can make it out of puffed rice, yes, but it won't have the snap crisp that rice krispies have, it'll have a softer puffy taste.. But that's good too.

Also, I didn't like the colour of rice krispys. The premade rice krispy treats taste... akward, in my opinion. I made candy onigiri, with japanese fruit jelly inside ^-^

My sister is giving a candy sushi class, with regular homemade rice crispy treats as sushi rice, and it doesn't look right, it makes the sushi all hard and gross.

puffed rice is soft and white.
