G&T Secret Santa 2006: IT HAS BEGUN

It's time for G&T Secret Santa 2006: now with draconian moderation!



G&T Secret Santa is simple. You join in and you get put on a list. Once I get all the names, I jumble them up and you get assigned someone else from the list at random (your Santee). I tell you who that person is, in secret, and you buy them a present and mail it to them (you are their Santa). What they are getting and who it's from remains a secret until they receive the present.


So, here's how it works:

To join up, send an email to gntsecretsanta@hotmail.com with the subject "[your forum name here]". In the email body include your full mailing address, including your full name, because some places won't deliver mail unless there's a real name with the address. Make sure you include all the information necessary for someone from another country to be able to easily enter your mailing address without having to do any detective work--it's possible your Santa may be from a different country than the one you live in.

Feel free to say "I'm in" in this thread, but remember that unless you send me the email described above, you're not participating.

Also: this year I'm not going to accept anybody whose forum join date is October 1, 2006 or later. Sorry. A bunch of people registered accounts just to get free presents, and a bunch of other folks got shafted because of it. This year, I'm taking no chances. If your forum join date is September 30, 2006 or earlier, you're eligible for G&T Secret Santa.


Minimum gift value: $10. There's no maximum gift value--if you decide to buy someone an $80 import game, or a $400 game console, that's fine, but keep in mind that you might end up getting a $10 action figure from your Santa.

Make sure gifts are "appropriate". No porn, no racist hate literature, no snuff cinema, nothing like that. If you really think you can't participate without sending someone a doujin manga, then just don't sign up. If you're 100% sure that someone will appreciate you giving them an off-color gift, and 100% sure that nobody else in that person's household will object to the gift in the event it's opened in front of friends or family, then you might be able to take a chance. If there's any doubt, err on the safe side.


Deadlines
November 10: signups for G&T Secret Santa end
December 31: your Santee must receive his or her gift by this date



VERY IMPORTANT: If your Santee doesn't receive a gift by December 31, I'm banning you from the PA forums on January 1. Forever. No ifs, ands or buts. If you think you might not be able to mail your Santee a $10 gift by December 31, for any reason, don't sign up.

I'm not fucking around here. Don't test me on this.




Also, don't complain about who you get as a Santee. It may be someone you don't know. If you're not comfortable with taking that chance, don't sign up. It may also be someone who lives in another country, and you may have to pay international shipping to mail your gift to that person. If you're not comfortable with taking that chance, don't sign up. After you get assigned a Santee, you'll have more than a month and a half to try and come up with something that person might like. If you're not comfortable with the thought of having to put some effort into coming up with a good gift for your Santee, don't sign up.

Also also, don't complain about what your Secret Santa gives you. It may be something you don't particularly like. If you're not comfortable with taking that chance, don't sign up.

The hunt through the forum to try and figure out what someone owns. doesn't own, and wants is so much fun. Then finding it yourself is equally awesome. Sending it out and then seeing the resulting forum post/pictures is so satisfying. This thread wins life.

The fact that I have money this year should help. Though I think the first few volumes of Yotsuba&! was a pretty good gift last year.
