Laptop advice

I'm looking at getting laptops for myself and my wife. Basically we want to be able to play WoW or darkfall and possibly Diablo 3 in the future(although no requirements have been released yet) So i figured I would ask the more knowledgeable people out there seeing as I am out of the loop. I built my desktop 5 years ago and have no experience with laptops.

We are looking at the 400-600(each unit) dollar range, maybe a bit higher. Power is also an issue as we run off of solar and batteries(which is why we are looking at laptops) my desktop with monitor runs at 460ish watts. Most laptops I've seen online fail to say what the power rating is on them. The one we have at home(not mine) is rated about 90W but running is less.

Thanks for any advice

You're going to want something with a dedicated graphics card, and your price point seems a little low for that. As a benchmark, the cheapest Dell with dedicated graphics has an MSRP of $1,169 ($849 w/ "instant savings," whatever that is). There might be cheaper ones out there, but probably not by much.

for your price range you might be able to run wow but not well.

You wont be able to play diablo 3 on a $600 laptop

also for the price your going to be low on ram, so dont get vista if at all possible.

Is there any reason it has to be a laptop? For that price range playing even WoW might be a stretch, and Diablo III is probably out of the picture.

I have a refurb gateway laptop that runs vista with 3gb ram and non-dedicated 256MB video, and it plays WoW with 30-40 fps. It's not crazy amazing graphics, but it will certainly do the job. I think I paid 575 for it from tiger direct. That could be an option for you.

As I said a laptops power use is by far less then a desktop. Our power consists of batteries and solar "NO BC HYDRO" For example: A $600 laptop uses half the power of an 17" LCD desktop monitor.

My buddy got an aspire one and says it's running WoW okay (I figured D3 would be a no go on any laptop)
That's also on min settings but he is getting a 1gig ram upgrade for it and will see how it runs from there.

Guess I'll keep looking around and reserching what I can. More idea are well appreciated.

    Thanks!

Any laptop that can run, or will be able to run Diablo 3 will draw an absurd amount of power and have a low battery life.
Maybe consider a netbook (Eee/Aspire One) with a 6-cell battery, and hit the desktop for your gaming needs.

It is conceivable that you could find a laptop that will run D3, Blizzard is usually not unkind with their system reqs, and you can get a pretty beastly laptop for $1200+

    But, y'know. $1200+
