1st actual piece of work (in photoshop)

Hi! i just got Photoshop 9 CS2 a few days ago, I messed around on it for a day or 2, now i actually sat down and drew something. Criticizm is appreciated. (the first one who tells me who it's a drawing of gets a cookie)

I think i may have overdone the lighting O.o

You're kidding me. I mean, beyond the fact that the quality of the drawing itself is poor in general, (and the fact that the guy who thought up Cable wasn't too hot at it either), I was under the impression that Cable was a huge, Ford F450 of a man. This guy looks like his morning routine involves riding his recumbent bike down to the Jamba Juice before heading to his class on modern dance.

And why is he looking 180 degrees away from where his gun is pointing.

In the somewhat off-chance this is not a joke, you really should walk away from photoshop and learn how to draw with a pencil first.

I suppose out of interest of not destroying this young man's soul entirely, I should ask how old he is.

Young man (I am assuming you are both young, and a man), how old are you? And how much work are you willing to put in to improving your drawing skills?

Because solid, general advice can be given if you want it, and if you put a lot of effort into following it you can get a hell of a lot better. However, there is not much here in this piece to say in terms of honest straightforward criticism, other than you don't seem to know a lot about drawing, and should be seeking to educate yourself in a general sense about how to draw via books and tutorials, and sweat and blood.
