Hey guys, i require the aid of the PA video game hive mind.
I was trying to remember one of my favorite PC games as a kid. I think it came out in the mid or late 90s. It was a racing game where the focus was on not just winning the race, but also destroying your opponents' cars. The tracks resembled real tracks, but i recall obscene jumps and hazards such as chasms and possible lava pits. I think the cars had 3 stats: weight, health, and speed (possibly). You could win races by just ramming into other cars and doing damage to them, or forcing them into hazards. Whenever you got a kill, you would get a skull and crossbones that popped up on the screen. The only other things i remember are the fact that the logo had skid marks on it and that the two cars I used were a red and white car, and a green and purple car.
Any assistance in helping me find this game would be appreciated.
MegaRace's host is the eccentric Lance Boyle (played by Christian Erickson). He guides you throughout the game, introducing new levels and enemies to you and tries to discourage you. In Lance's own words:
* "Do you ever wonder what it's like to race a real high-performance sports car? You know, like the ones those punk speed-gangs drive on the freeways? Those guys really think they rule the road, right? I mean, where do they get off intimidating law-abiding citizens and tax-payers? You know what I mean? And you know something else, you are absolutely right!"
* "So you say, 'Somebody ought to DO something about them criminal highway gangs!' And VWBT says, 'Oh yeah?! Well, why don't YOU do something, mister big-mouth!'. You don't have the car? We'll give you the car! You don't want to get arrested for taking the law into your hands? Not a problem! You know why? Because it AIN'T REAL! It's a whole lot better than real, baby! It's virtual television: reality's worst nightmare!"
* "Here's the deal: our chosen candidate—and everyone with a death-wish is free to apply, including men and women of either sex—our candidate, who we call, 'The ENFORCER', gets a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to terminate a whole lotta slime-balls, and there's nothing anybody can do about it. You see what I mean? Because it all happening right here on VWBT; where the cops move over and the Enforcer takes over!"
* "We have fourteen amazing race tracks in five totally different environments. We have cars, you'd sell every drop of blood in your body to own! We have exclusive contracts with five—yes, I said 'FIVE' vicious speed-gangs each with a 'pack-leader' you don't ever wanna meet. Believe me, I did and I still feel sick."
* "Wait till you hear this! Every time you kill a pack-leader—and when I say "kill", I'm talking virtuality, not reality, okay? In MegaRace, nobody actually dies—it just looks and feels like it, and that makes you feel a whole lot better about yourself, now doesn't it? Every time you kill a leader, you not only score big time, you also win some major bonus prizes. His personal music CD and his customized car are both yours!"
None of those so far. There were no weapons on the cars, you just rammed into other people. And you definitely drove on normal-ish race tracks. For some reason the thing that stands out most in my mind is the skid marks on the box art. Im pretty sure but not positive it was on a CD.

Does sound like Destruction Derby 2 or something like that..
edit: although no skid marks across the box, I guess.
Oh, actually, there was another PC game where you could ram people off the road I think. I had it for a while but it was rubbish and I returned it. What the heck was that?
Ok I should clarify, when i remember the skid marks, theyre on the opening logo for the game, I cant confirm that its on the box. Im also remembering the crazy jumps. I think there were corkscrews in the tracks also.

Sure it's not Carmageddon 3?
Crazy jumps, no weapons on cars, ramming other cars to wreck them to win...
I used to play a lot of Supercars and Supercars 2 on the Amiga, but you had bolt-on rockets and oil-slicks and caltrops in that game. (It was awesome.)
There's an Amiga and C64 port of Chase HQ. Though I assume he meant DOS or Windows.
Oh, well if we're using PC in the antiquated parlance of a 'personal computer', then yeah, it was on all sorts of PCs back in the day. ZX Spectrum, Amstrad CPC, Atari ST, Amiga...But IBM PC? DOS PC? Windows PC? Not so much.
For what it's worth, Destruction Derby does have lots of jumps and corkscrews jumps and stuff, but the track itself doesn't go upside-down or anything.
edit: and I played a Fatal Racing demo yeeeears ago. Man, I remember that. Good times.
I don't feel like making my own thread at the moment, so if anyone can name this old PC game (might have been mac but I'm 85% sure it's PC) I played several years ago, I'd be stoked.
I don't remember much about it, it was an adventure game meant for kids (I think I played it in like 4th grade) with an interface like Shadowgate. I think it was set in a pretty dark looking castle, but it had characters to talk to as well. The only two parts I remember clearly are a maze you navigate with a boat, I think in the flooded basement, and a part where an anthromorphic pig girl wants you to answer a riddle or something before you can climb up the staircase behind her. I think it had voice acting but I'm not sure.
Not according to GIS, the graphics were a lot better than that... It was sort of like Myst where the graphics could look good since there was no real time movement.
Oh shit. That name brings back a flood of memories. I'm suddenly back in my primary school computer room surrounded by acorn computers, jostling to get one of the good ones with a colour screen rather than the green or orange shitty ones.
Loading up Granny's Garden or Podd! Holy crap, Podd! Wow, I think the only other thing I recall is how fucking hard the acorn version of Lunar Lander was when you were 7.
Actually, that reminds me of that old microsoft monster truck racing game. Monster Truck Madness, I think it was, it also had a super enthusiastic announcer, though he wasn't quite as annoying.
"Bigfoot has craaaaaashed leaving an incredible path of destruction behind him!"
"Your planet is doomed, and there is only one remaining seat on the spaceship leading citizens to safety. This will go to the winner of a sequences of races held within this futuristic world."

Or Demolition Derby I guess. Although no chasms or lava pits.
Whatever this game was, you should've been playing Carmageddon instead.
Haha! Brilliant!

Probably not though

This game had the world's greatest and least annoying announcer in any videogame ever.

Oh my god, that is horrible. I could feel my teeth grating with everything he says. 'YOU'RE GOING TOO FAST!" "YOU'RE GOING TOO SLOW" "YEEEEHAAAA".
And then the screen pops up with 29 LAPS TO GO. It felt like some sort of joke.
YOU'VE BEEN LAPPED! STEP ON IT!
I thought it was fantastic. That guy sure is enthusiastic.
YEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I'm laughing just thinking about it.
This game apparently had pretty good reviews at the time as well.

I loved that book as a kid, I didn't know there was a video game!

Of course.
GT: Tanky the Tank

There was.
They had it at the library I would go to as a kid.
And my sister and I would play it to death every time we went.
And after that I have found a grand total of no other fucking person on the planet earth who even knew there was a game of it.
