The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
Saw the game today (October 22nd at Best Buy, cost of 39.99 Canadian). Should have been an XBLA title IMHO, 40 dollars is way too much particularly given everything else hitting the shelves.

Get the same amount of money as the year MONOPOLY was released
I noticed this posted by one of my colleagues earlier yesterday. I had no idea there was a Monopoly coming to the 360 (and apparently to the Wii and PS2 as well). Judging from the second screenshot there will be little party games involved as well. The idea of playing simultaneous turn Monopoly is VERY appealing to me.
I've been a big fan of board games on XBLA. I'm guessing this one will be retail though since it's also being released on the PS2 (and the achivement points add up to way more than 200).
Any word on pricing? I'd buy it if it's a budget title ....
i like the different themes, and you just know they will have more for download, but why does rich uncle pennybags look like he has a 4ft pole up his ass in every screenshot?
Oh man, Monopoly is back!? This game is so bought if the price is right. I played the Sega Genesis version to DEATH. The board game version I have killed alot of time during ike.
Monopoly is one of the worst board games ever created, and the fact that people will buy this piece of trash depresses me. Please, people, don't spend your money on this. Find a good game to play with some friends, or at least buy an actual video game.

Monopoly is awesome, if you extend/ignore the rules and start playing it like a stock market -- favors, loans, backdoor deals, last minute saves, immunity/free hotel stays. It kicks ass, and gets really intense.
Unfortuately, this almost certainly won't allow shit like that, so this WILL suck.

I love playing like that. Making unorthodox deals and trying to be your own mini bank.
"Tell ya what, I know you don't have the money to pay for this stay, so let's make a deal. You can stay here for free, but the next three times I land on your spaces I don't oh you a thing"
"You fucker... okay..."

I bet they also won't let you use the Clue weapons as game pieces either. Worthless.
This game seriously needs a save feature, and some kind of algorithm that can simulate the rest of the game and calculate who would win, because sometimes Monopoly just doesn't end. Even then, I'm baffled why they wouldn't put this up on the downloadable services. After all, Uno did pretty well.
And yeah, nobody I know ever actually follows the actual Monopoly rules; I actually looked at them one time and thought the 'auctioning after every place is landed on' rule was stupid.
Is there an option to make the game not based mostly on luck?
Here is a link with some general tips.
The one thing it doesn't mention is that you should always pay the 10% income tax if you land on it the first two times around the board. You start with $1500 and no matter how much property you have, it's worth exactly what you paid for it (well, the list price anyway). Including houses. One you earn about $500 (basically pass GO three times...), then pay the flat $200 fee.
Also, if folks don't like Monopoly because the game takes too long, they've either got the attention span of a doorknob or they're playing with house rules. Don't play with house rules if you want a fast game. Don't be afraid to make trades to complete monopolies. Don't forget that if an unowned property is landed on, the player must either buy it or they can decline and it goes up for auction to the highest bidder. This includes the player who landed on it. And bidding can start at any price.
Seriously, if the price is right, I'm picking this up.

Why do you think that? The rule is there to help the game go quicker.

No, it slows it down. How is wasting time auctioning off a piece of land make the game go faster?

It shouldn't take more than two minutes or so to auction a property. The faster somebody owns it (remember, it can be for any price) the faster players are on their way toward gaining monopolies, making others go bankrupt, and ending the game. Otherwise, you have to rely on luck for somebody to land on it and then want to buy it.
If the auction takes too long because everybody is just pulling a Price is Right bidding war, then that's hardly the game's fault. Break the bidding by upping the price. Or establish a minimum bid increase value.
Is there really a demand for an electronic version of Monopoly? It's not something I can remember wanting to have.
Personally I'd prefer a board-game version any day. Sure the online stuff might be cool, but I guess I've always considred Monopoly as always being a game for when friends and family are around. Plus you can make up your own rules and backhanded deals that the game itself can't really take account of if the rules is fixed like in an electronic game.
I’ll tell you what happens in Demon’s Souls when you die. You come back as a ghost with your health capped at half. And when you keep on dying, the alignment of the world turns black and the enemies get harder. That’s right, when you fail in this game, it gets harder. Why? Because fuck you is why.

Regardless, I suppose I'll get the Wii version if it's done well.
ed: also, it should cost like $20. Full price is ridiculous for this game.
I can't think of a better game to really bring out the best in people.

Ditto for wiiware.
But Lost made me really want to.

I would sig this if it wouldn't make my sig too big.

He looks almost like claymation.
Does claymation freak you out too?
and then it's not XBLA
edit: also epic failure not having a Boardwalk-related achievement
Maybe if you wait, they'll put one up on Live in a few months.
Worked with Tetris.

Do not engage the Watermelons.
I want Star Wars and Beatles Monopoly.

I think this is a big FAIL.
The game belongs on XBLA, no idea why the fuck they went retail.
Pay them in monapoloy money, I'm sure someone will get a kick out of it.
