What is this movie?

I remember watching a movie a long time ago about time travel. It was a professor that had an old tintype (picture) and he noticed that there was a gun that was too new to be in a picture that old. There was some sort of crystal used for the travel, and I vaguely recall him wanting to or trying to rescue his wife from blowing up in car.

Any help on this would be tremendously appreciated.
