That's what Crysis is for :P

Actually, tbh, Crysis is way more stable than CS, all while looking better and running just as well in DX9. God Rays in CS absolutely destroy my frame rate - as soon as 0600 hits my FPS drops, literally, 30fps.

I can't fucking wait to see what modders do with teh faction warz in CS. It makes me wish I could code.

Hey, would anyone be interested in an atmospheric music/effect pack for clear sky? I'm doing some stuff for Shotgun Sunrise, too, and am debating putting some stuff together for Clear Sky ...

Unofficial patch sort of got it working again but it still tends to crash seemingly at random

Game was flawlessly stable for me. However, everything has been stable since I threw those giant accelerando (sp) heatsinks on my video cards.

What would you need to know to mod this beyond simple things?

I can do weapons, armor, artefacts, trader stock, player mods (weight and that kinda stuff).

What would take to start doing scripted things like a conversation between 2 actors? I don't think I'd delve to heavily into the graphic part of modding, as that's the difficult part where I'm concerned.

Ran into three weird events in the same bloodsucker purge in SoC.

I'm out killing bloodsuckers in the village; got me special auto-shotgun and a lot of rupture protection so no worries. I take a look with the binoculars and see nada. What a surprise. I walk into the village and still nothing. I walk in the front door of a house, turn the corner, and right there is a bloodsucker. For a split-second, neither of us moved, just looking at each other. My amusement (surprise) over with, I fill it up with buckshot while it lightly scratches me.

I head back outside and find another bloodsucker at the same time it finds me. Unfortunately, I forgot to reload so I only have one shell loaded. BOOM! Click-click-click. Dangit. I didn't even manage to hit the bastard, either. While I'm reloading, the bloodsucker roars, turns invisible... and runs away. Not like "circle around and attack again", I mean "oh shit that guy has a shotgun run run run". I actually had to chase the bloodsucker in order to kill it. I felt like the King of the Zone.

With the Cowardly Mutant now dead I continue my rampage. Kill a couple more bloodsuckers without event and see another one loping around outside a ruined house. Being a ruthless, comedic bastard, I decide to sneak up to it and blast it with an automatic shotgun. Shotguns love irony. I must have scraped by a bush or something because the bloodsucker heard me, turned invisible, and ran around the corner. Oh well. So I wait for the charge. And wait. And wait some more. Then I realize that it's just standing inside the house, invisible, but clearly visible through a very large window frame. In fact, the only part of the house that's still standing is the little bit of wall supporting the window frame and almost nothing else. Ooookaaay. I take one shot and it just flops right to the ground. Not even a head shot, just one blast and it's a deader.

Quirky AI is the best AI. Why can't more AI be programmed to do weird, unexpected things?

And you guys need to stop talking about god rays and wet surfaces and awesome stuff like that. It makes my laptop weep!

I really can't answer your question. All I know is that coding is involved with the AI behavior - I'm not even sure what language.

The point I was making was anyone can wrap their head around the config stuff within a reasonable amount of time, and be able to tweak those things to their liking. Maybe there's some good beginner stuff over at the official forums - I'll check it out and post anything interesting.

I want a faction wars where you pick your faction at the start of the game and depending on that your missions and where you start changes. Like if you choose freedom you start in dark valley, if you choose duty you start in apro, if you choose monolith you start in the center of the zone. Etc. The idea would be to take over the whole map or some other objective. And you can make alliances with other factions that are somewhat agreeable to yours, say freedom allying with the loners.

It's not that bad. Night time can be quite nerve racking. Especially if you're low on ammo and can hear the mutants running around but can't see them.

Men will shoot at you and you'll see the muzzle flash and tracer rounds, but not mutants. Not bloodsuckers especially. They can't even be shot until they uncloak (they're cloaked!).

I've tried shooting them or sniping them while cloaked (during the day) and I can never seem to hit them. Those guys will pop out at you when you don't expect it.

That's about it for scariness really. Oh, eventually all the mutants pretty much become bloodsuckers as you get further into the game.

You have to go into areas with mutants and bloodsuckers (which are mutants). There are not that many instances of pop out of the woodwork scariness especially the scripted kind. The whole games atmosphere though will draw you in and it is creepy.

Also bloodsuckers in clearsky are invincible while cloaked, luckily they are pretty easy to take down but baiting them into attacking especially when multiple are present can get.. interesting.

You can go to the OP and get the full explanation, but I'd just play SoC first. It may not exactly tell you why, but once you're done you can read and figure out what's going on. For just a small spoiler about it:
Suffice it to say that a mysterious group marks the brainwashed stalkers and sends them back out into the Zone to do their bidding. In SoC you are one of these guys.

The reason bandits are so tough is because they literally have to fight three enemies at once, all the time. You play bandits for the challenge, but they're definitely underpowered.

My games coming along well though... I've shored up the defenses in the garbage and occupied most of the cordon, and the stalker base in agropom.
Nearly all my guys have those bulletproof vests on, and most are carrying AS VALS at this point. They're getting pretty hardcore, but it took a lot of work, and duty can still be a problem.

Yeah, Duty isn't non-profit, it just doesn't want the stuff from the Zone spread around the entire planet. Duty wants Zone stuff tightly controlled in the belief it will keep the Zone from covering the earth. They also get some help from the military.

Freedom, on the other hand, is a bunch of smelly hippies that don't care about that. They think that nobody owns the Zone and should be open to anyone wants profit from it. Since nobody likes them and everybody says they're dumb, they are pretty much on their own.

    Dumb hippies.

Also, the military gets in fights with everybody. As far as they're concerned, it's Russian land and what they want takes precedence over anything else. Handing a semi-aligned group a bunch of equipment to fight perceived threat isn't the same thing as being best buds forever. The military doesn't want anybody in the Zone except for their people, so they basically operate like bandits with awesome gear. If they could, they would just wipe out everybody in the Zone and keep everyone else out.
