If this is old then please delete. I just found these today and i thought you guys should see it. An ex-Gamestop employee made a brilliant video series on how the company operates. I've been an employee at GS on and off for many years and can vouch, this guy is spot on and hilarious. Enjoy and discuss.
Ugh, god, not again. I've seen this posted everywhere for the last month. It's 90 minutes of the same crap we've known about for years done in a bad rip-off of Yahtzee.
Are these the videos with the horrible, headache inducing and grating speaker? Oh hey, it looks like they are. We had a thread on this before and pretty much no one could stand watching more than a few minutes. I didn't even make it to one minute before I started bleeding out of my ears.

Hmm. He said somewhere in that first video (yes, I slogged through it) that he used a voice-changer. Which begs the question why not just have someone else do it?
Maybe someone with an accent. Or at least faking one.

Hell, I figure if he's trying so hard to be Yahtzee, he should just get someone with the proper linguistic skills.
Shit, I could probably do better than this guy if given a transcript.

Wow, a lot of hate. Sorry it's old, i didn't post it to be a revelation, i just thought it was funny and good for a laugh.
The fact that he sounds like the adults in a Peanuts TV special is probably the root cause of the hate. :P
Maybe you guys need better speakers, sounds just fine to me.:|
I've got a decent set of headphones on and it's still rubbish. The problem isn't with the sound reproduction on our end, it's on his. He drones, he can't enunciate, and he's using a voice-changer to boot.

He should have used one of those darth vader voice changer masks. It wouldn't have been any less intelligible but it would have been more amusing. Well, at least until the novelty of the darth vader voice wore off and it became annoying again.
I pointed this out last time, but he does get someone else to do the voiceover at some point. I forget when, but you may be better skipping the first one episode.
The only real surprise to me is that they basically pay their employees with a gift card.
But one thing I can't understand is why all the hate on Gamestop? I know about the horrible stuff they do: gutting games, playing said gutted games, horrible trade in prices, etc.
But I mean, when they are having a deal, you can really make out like a bandit. I traded in a few games last week that I was never going to play, and with all the promos and deals they had at the time, I ended up being able to get (well reserve) Saints Row 2 for basically free.
So it is worth it to trade in when they have deals going on. Also they sometimes have used deals that are great too.
Now the people that work there get a bad rap as not caring or being a bunch of jackasses. But the guys that work at the one I go to are excellent. They are nice and will tell you if they liked a game or not. They will take returns with no questions asked, no hassle.
They do push pre-orders, but not too much. They ask you once, you say no, they move on.
I just never got the hate, perhaps some stores do deserve the hate but the one I go to treats me very well. And I can see if you get a game and they say it's new, but it isn't.
I guess my point is that in bite-sized chunks, Gamestop isn't that bad.
Or maybe I have no point and I am just a mad man, going on and on about nothing cause I am bored at work. :P

And if you aren't informed of said deals, or trade in at any other time, you're getting screwed like a two-dollar whore.

Ever notice how all of the games GameStop carries seem to be awesome, or at least not suck? That's because GameStop employees aren't allowed to badmouth a game for fear of losing a precious reserve/sale of a used copy.
They do push pre-orders, but not too much. They ask you once, you say no, they move on.
Once is more than often enough.

I'm using EB Games and GameStop interchangeably here.

The one advantage they have as a source for used games is the fact that you can return a game after 7 days and just get something else with no hassle at all.

It's not for lack of signs and ads. Maybe you're just not paying attention. Hardly GameStop's fault.

Blatant lies. No company policy in place that says how employees are required to feel about games.
They do push pre-orders, but not too much. They ask you once, you say no, they move on.

I certainly am having a difficult time typing today.

If you aren't informed of said deals, that isn't there fault. They are all on the website and flyers. I stay informed of the deals by checking their website every so often.
EDIT: Didn't read that other part, yes, if you do trade in at any other time, you do get screwed. But that is why I wait unitl the deals kick in. Like I said, when they have deals, you can make out like a bandit.

Actually, no, I haven't. The employees at the Gamestop I go to totally badmouth games that they think suck. They don't gloss over a game if they don't think it is any good. So I have no idea where you are coming up with this information. You may want to check your sources.
Ive never been to Gamestop, but my local EB is like on another wavelength then everyone elses i believe.
Ive never been hassled about anything... Never even Imagines you could be hassled about pre-orders. Usually i go in asking if such-and-such obscure game is in yet, and they get super excited and start a conversation about.

I think it does a better job at being informative than being funny.
The two Game Stops in my city were originally Software Etcs until EB/GS bought them, but they seem to be Game Stop in name only. I've only been asked to preorder once, and that was for Spore when buying the Creature Creator. He asked me about Spore and wanted to know how it was shaping up/ if it was going to be something to buy. They've got good employees and I don't get the impressing they're threatened every week by upper management to make more used game sales. They do marginalize PC game space though.
Anyway, I've said it once and I'll say it again: They're a business, in the business of making money. How the individual employee acts can (not saying if it's often or rare here) is up to that individual employee. How that employee acts when, say, a district manager (if applicable) is around will likely be a different story. How that employee acts when their individual manager is around depends on how that individual manager acts.
It all boils down to when you walk in the door. Could be good, could be bad (again, not trying to say there's a frequency for one or the other). Some people that work at Gamestop are cocks. I've run into a few stores where everyone working there was a cock. I've been in more stores where the people are really cool, and I choose to shop at said "cool people" stores.
Do I like the way that their used games come packaged (minimum 3 stickers on the case, one of which is on the actual insert)? Hell no. But that's personal taste, which is what it all boils down to. If you don't like that store, find another. If finding another isn't reasonable, then look at online options or use a different brick and mortar, like Best Buy, Target or Wal-Mart. Simple as that. But don't slap a general brand on everything under the Gamestop umbrella. All that serves to do is make everyone working there look like a jerk and no one likes that.

Hey, this is like reading through the employee lounge again!(I miss that thread, why did it dissapear?)
Anyways, I did my span at Gamestop as an assistant manager about two-three years ago. I had just recently moved to dallas from a smaller city, so I thought what they were paying me was damn good. Now I realize what a sucker I was.
It's funny though, cause nowadays when I stop by GS/EB, they never push preorders anymore. Has something change, or do I just have a face that makes people not even bother to ask?
personally Gamestop is the last place I go to. the only time I do is if they have some type of "only at Gamestop" thing or it's the only place in town I can go to. I try to support the independent Game stores first before going into GS.

I can't believe they get away with paying their employees in what amounts to a gift card for a non-existent store and if you want actual cash it COSTS you MONEY.
Video no longer available (surprise surprise) but GameStop stores their new systems...on the floor in their employee restroom.
Strange. We store ours in the back room, behind a cage, like normal folk.
We didn't. In fact, all new systems were store in the restroom(which obviously had it's own lock). Also, games that had streetdates like Madden were also usually stored there as well.
