Hey, a new thread. I was pretty impressed with Biden. I only got to hear the bits that came between static as our radio station lost its satellite dish. I'm going to have to assume that Palin was lackluster.

She never answers anything ever. This is not just a tonight thing. I tried talking to her about some local hydropower issues and she got really confused and sloughed me off to some other guy.

Her biggest asset this go around was her ability to dodge questions and not come off as shaken. She wore a smile althroughout and maintained composure.

That's exactly what the office manager at work was saying today. Palin did this in the gubernatorial races as well.

Of course the office manager said it was "Reaganesque." I said, "uh-huh," and turned back to writing my article on storytime at the local library.

    She slipped up once.

When Biden praised the wind-fall profits in Alaska, and said he hoped she could talk McCain into something like that if elected, she was clearly shaken.

Right and because of that, she probably got a bunch of the people on the fence to come over to the McCain side. The biggest issue is that people thought she was an idiot and not capable of being the VP. Tonight, she showed some composure and didn't look like as much a fool as people expected her to be.

Biden, on the other hand, was as expected.

    Advantage: Palin.

I though Biden making conscious effort to refer to her as Governor Palin was a smart move. It creates this air of precision and authority that I think was reflected in a lot of his other speaking techniques.

Palin was using a lot of casual speak, dog gone, maverick nicknames and a lot of references to her small town america background.

While Biden was definitely trying to seem like the high class experienced Washington senator, which he is, in both speaking technique and mannerisms.

Bringing to light Palins inexperience in a very subtle but effective way.

On the other hand, I get the impression Palin is going to be more likeable to certain groups who value that ethic.

But I dont see how anyone could put her in that job over him. He was professional, riddled with facts and data to the eyeballs, calm and respectful to her and McCain while also destroying her and shooting down all of her points.

I think in the end, Biden definitely seemed presidential, which was mentioned in the old thread. While Palin did not.

Did anyone else thing is was in deplorable taste when, in reference to Biden's dead wife, BEFORE Biden had mentioned her, Palin said "her reward is in heaven"?

Yes. It sounded to me like an outright dickheaded move, like 'ha ha, you may be destroying me but your wife's fucking dead'

Actually, i thought it was incredibly shitty, and i didn't know his wife was dead. Now that I know? I just hate the bitch. So many passive-aggressive bullshit things said by her.

    See that's the problem.

People are claiming a win for Palin because despite her just getting reamed in the debate by Biden, she wasn't as stupid and lost as she was in her earlier interviews, where Biden was Biden, just more awesome.

That's not a Palin win dammit, that's Palin losing by less of a margin than expected.

It's what everyone is saying though.

Palin was smarter than she was expected to be, and while Biden basically just destroyed her, since she was better at the debate than was predicted people are saying it was a win for her.

By everyone I'm referring to the stupid news people.

PALIN WAS NOT TALKING ABOUT BIDEN'S DEAD WIFE.

The remark in question about about better pay for teachers. Biden's current, and VERY MUCH ALIVE wife is a teacher. The "her reward is in heaven" comment was a comment about the poor pay teachers currently receive. It was a compliment towards Biden's current, AND STILL VERY ALIVE, wife.
