Alright, this game is just under a month from release. The controls are supposed to be pretty slick and the voice command is also supposedly working really well. You got three factions battling on a global meta map. Is nobody else excited for this game?
Looks like a perfectly normal pose a woman would strike while standing and waiting for a bus or some other such boring activity.
It's like "ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.. damnit I've been hunched over for hours"
Also I'm supposed to be getting my token for the 'VIP demo' (beta) tomorrow, so I'm looking forward to giving it a try. Also feeling like a tool talking to my console.

End War sounds cool...but then I think that of every RTS until I get them home and realize I suck at them...horribly.
I just saw a posting on craiglist offering 14-15/hr to demo this game at the end of this month at yet to be named "big box" stores. I don't know if this is a normal tactic for a game launch or its more a ominous sign as to the level of confidence the publisher has in the game. I would take up this offering, but I don't like RTS games and I don't like the "public." The two combined would be more than I could stand.
EDIT: Basically they're wanting people to show off the voice command gimmick.

It has nukes, kinetic strikes, and some other super weapon. What you get depends on the faction you're playing. Deployment of the super weapons comes at the end of a battle. When you're losing you have the option of using your super weapon to turn the tide. However, if you do the enemy unlocks the ability to retaliate using theirs. I should also mention units gain experience that carries over, if they survive the battle.
Do you just select the units and then select a pre-set list of areas for them to go and attack/defend? Because that's what all the gameplay videos I've seen look like and I wasn't very impressed.
I don’t think it has much going for it in my opinion, it’s very clear that World in Conflict is the primary influence of this game. End War’s mechanics aren’t nearly as well thought out or implemented as what WiC delivered. They also seem to have taken Massive entertainment well executed Rock-Paper-Scissors game mechanics and streamlined it to make it more simplified for the sake of appealing to a more general audience, removing much of the strategy that would normally be involved in the game.
The game does have one redeeming quality that may or may not sway people to its side, a simulated progressive war. Meaning the progress you’ve made carries over to the next battle, such as units experience and ranking, upgrades, and territory won or lost. Course even this feature is not original in the way it’s presented or used, it’s almost a complete copy Chrome Hounds’ fabled featured progressive war which was one of its main selling points and also why the game has such a strong surviving community, even though the game wasn’t well accept by a large number of people.
Looks like World in conflict with less units (and pretties) and voice command
And the sad thing is that it's going to get more press than WiC 'cause it's a Console game
WiC is so damned good.
But the important question is if it has nukes
No, sadly the game does not feature actually nukes, the JSF and EFEC apparently set up some type of Star Wars network of satellites that have rendered conventional ICBM pointless.
Nope, they have a giant cruise missile that's fired from a modified mobile ICBM firing platforms that delivers a high yield conventional warhead with the destructive power equivalent to that of the US made MOAB.
Whatever happened to the WiC expansion/ port anyway?
Blizzard-Activision dropped support for Soviet Assault and are auctioning off Massive Entertainment. It may never get released, depending on who buys Massive.

SERIOUSLY?! Oh man, and I was waiting for Soviet Assault too! Why didn't I read about this in any news site?!
Dunno, because it hasn't been released. The aforementioned Soviet Assault, bizarrely, also is the name of the console ports as well as the expansion for the PC version, and they're both in limbo. Which is fucking shitty because WiC is one of the more imaginative RTS games in recent memory and frankly deserves better respect.

Where were all of you guys this summer, living under a rock? This was a huge issue for several weeks when Blizzard-Activision spoke to the press.

That's all well and good until players start panicing as they get beaten, i'm wondering what the Voice recognistion software will make of "STOPEXPLODINGYOUCOWARDS" being bellowed into the mic.

You have to hold down a button in order to activate the mic, I believe. Still might happen, though.

This sounds horribly embarrassing - standing around wearing a headset in a store, uttering voice commands?

This is what I got from it too. People who may know more about the game: is this basically the case, or is there any more depth than that?
This game is canonically consistent with both HAWX and Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 1 and 2 iirc.
It's all one big continuity. That's kinda cool.
Voice commands also is something I've wanted for fucking ages.
for ages? several years ago on the original xbox, Rainbow Six 3 had excellent voice commands. For me I was having a 90% plus recognition rate. Only the occasional command my squad wouldn't understand. It added that extra dimension to the game that none other had. I was certainly impressed and I used to work for a large voice recognition software company.
Every Rainbow sequel has gotten worse in the voice recognition area. But I am glad to see they haven't given up on it.
My wife did hate that game with a passion though. I have a feeling she wrote them a letter or sent bags of money to make them ruin that feature. How can a spouse not love being woken up at 3AM to "OPEN - FLASH - CLEAR!"

I meant in an RTS. Less micro mapped to the mouse is better.
Yeah, that's what I'm looking forward to. I suck so bad at having to give detailed instructions to every unit and coordinate efforts with a mouse. Being able just to bark orders (after learning the commands and syntax, of course) will hopefully make things a lot easier.

Damn, I played the beta on the PC for a while but I can barely run the game.

Really. Just in case you didn't feel like enough of a dork already.
Don't really see the difference (in embarrassment "level") between this and playing a Wii game in public... or an arcade game with a plastic gun... or (god forbid) DDR.

The difference between this and those other games you mentioned is that those other games look fun when demoed. Standing around playing a RTS with a headset would look retarded and be boring to watch.

So you've got to sell it, man.
Get someone to bring in a table and drape a map over it. Run to your nearest toy-shop and pick up some plastic army men, place them on the map. Maybe even get a broom and cut all the bristles off the end so you can push the pieces around if you really need. Then you're free to point, shout, and slam your fist into the table all you like.

Yeah, same here. I always fail to learn any actual skills for them, and end up resorting to turtle -> bumrush.
