Where can I find a cheap high-speed internet connection? I plan on having several servers hooked up for game hosting (something like counter-strike source, I think each server would be getting up to 40 people or more) and I don't know what kind of a connection I'll need or who to buy it from.
Larger companies are going to have much less overhead and are already offering the same services. In my opinion it would be hard to turn a profit with a small-scale operation unless you offered something really novel.

Exactly, hmm.... I've always wanted to host my own little thing like this, but If it can't pay for itself there's really no point. I wonder what I can offer other than frre web space.
I was planning on selling the server space, either through web hosting or hosting game servers for other people.
This is probably a bad idea huh? It'd be a while before I started making any profit, if I made any at all.
Unless you already have several clients willing to purchase the space/bandwidth at a markup from you, bad idea.
The ballpark for "bandwidth per user" for Source engine is usually around 16KB/s. For a 32-man server, that's about 4Mbps. Now, let's say you want to run ten of those, and have 10% spare bandwidth. You'll need a DS3 (45Mbps). That's about $2000 a month. Do you know anyone willing to pay $200/month to have you host their CS server?
*Edit - Prices may vary wildly depending on your local market, availability of high-bandwidth connections, transfer amounts, bursting, SLA, installation and configuration not included.

Looking for a DX:HR OnLive code for my kid brother.
Can trade TF2 items or whatever else you're interested in. PM me.

Another hobby down the drain
Edit: I'll keep looking, I see a lot of contradicting information about bandwidth usage on CS:S servers and prices. All I can seem to find is that it's hard to find accurate amounts and most people can only guess.
What about a dedicated server box through a web host? I found one nearby that has 100mbps, and reasonable rental fees for a dedicated server.
What about colocation? I can't find anything that lists prices.

The PA TF2 servers are hosted at GameServers.com, at a buck a player slot for passworded servers.
How many servers were you planning on running?
