Man I am really enjoying Tales of Vesperia right now.
Apparently I'm a good portion of the way through it though.
Is there a good amount of post-game stuff (other than New Game+)?
The EX Dungeon takes several runthroughs to complete and will rock your face off if you're not adequately prepared and not playing on Easy. That also unlocks the largest Coliseum battle, which is pretty fun with each character as well.
Is there any way to access it after beating the game?
I noticed in the sidequest guide that I was supposed to have done something earlier in the game to start the quest for it, and it looks like I may have screwed myself over.

I will say this one more time, this game took me 130 hours to beat on my first play through, and thats WITHOUT the extra dungeon. I guess it just depends on what youre willing to do. (cooking was a goddamn large amount of that time though oh god the cooking...but hey, once I mastered everything with everybody I never had to do it again!)

Pretty sure you can only access the secret dungeon on your second play through.

A little birdy told me that they are finally continuing the ToS OAV sometime soon. I loved that shit.

You know...I have to say that I'm glad they finally made the Abyssion weapons augment Magic Attack too in Vesperia. I was wondering how long it would take them to get that.

You can access it on your first playthrough after beating the game, but if you missed the events earlier you're out of luck on that playthrough. It seems to be a hallmark of the Tales games to put missable things all over the place, but making an entire extra dungeon missable is a little retarded.
So I finally got ToV.
Holy shit so the beginning is slow (still not as slow as ToS's, though).
Just wordswordswordswords TUTORIAL FIGHT (which incidentally, I lost), more WORDS WORDS WORDS then RAPE BOSS.
Still need to get used to the Free Run thing, and also I need another Arte other than AZURE EDGE AZURE EDGE AZU-AZURE EDGE.
Plus, I'm used to ToS's button configuration, so when I try to attack I AZURE EDGE, when I try to defend I attack, and then I try to AZURE EDGE I defend.

You can switch your button configuration you know.
First thing I did when I got the game was switch the attack and special buttons around.

You can configure the buttons to match your playing style. I just got used to Artes and Attack being switched from the control scheme used in Symphonia and Abyss feels different now to me.
And yeah, Zagi actually fights unlike most first bosses in RPGs.

Ugh.
Well, I was planning on replaying it on hard mode anyways but damn, making that missable sucks. I'm used to missable events in the Tales games, but a bonus dungeon being missable is pretty terrible.

Awesome, I'll get into that once I get home.
Also, I tried using an Apple Gel with Estelle on Yuri, but it would only make an "error" noise. I know I had not recently used an item, and Yuri was still alive, so what gives?

You need the "Item Thrower" ability. Since Abyss's release characters can't use other items on other characters(except Life Bottles) until they get it.

A character can only use most items on themselves, until they learn the Item Thrower skill.
It's stupid and was in Abyss too, annoyingly enough.

That's odd and dumbly implemented because then how would you ever use Life Bottles?
I mean, I know it obviously doesn't apply to LBs because I did use the one single bottle you get on Yuri with Estelle, but still, it doesn't follow any consistent logic.
Can someone rank these games in order of goodness. I want to play one but there's sooooo many.
I've only played Vesperia and Symphonia but I'd rank ToV over ToS. Not by much though, they're both very enjoyable.
Also regarding the secret dungeon - if you're on a second playthrough, it's a good idea to check out a guide that lists the missable events/items/etc. I think I mentioned it in the other thread, but I've got 2 guides up on GameFAQs for both Titles and Achievements which give details on some things like the secret dungeon.

Never played Destiny but I'd go so far as
Eternia(though it was the first one I played so nostalgia is a factor, still top 3 though)

Vesperia
l
Abyss

Symphonia

Legendia

Phantasia(though I never finished it)
So in ToV what's the point of having titles if not for stat changes in level ups?
I mean, right off the bat Yuri starts with Hometown Boy and Basic Swordsman. What's the difference? Which one's better?

Titles are there to be titles, nothing more. Certain titles will change your costume, and in the arena they call you by what title you have on, but other than that, titles are there to be titles, not stat boosting things >.>

Some of them are also costumes. Others are just proof that you've done a sidequest. Mostly, they're just there for something to collect.
seriously im worried. these are truly the end of days. duke nukem forever is coming out, and the best nintendo ds game on the horizon is a sonic the hedgehog rpg by bioware.
idk about you, but i though legendia was disgracefully bad
also note that i played them in the above order as well.
I saw some videos of Legendia (final final boss, I think) and it looked like a goddamn mid-generation PSX game.
I mean, goddamn, if your backgrounds are going to be drab and colorless at least make your character models attractive. Nope, they were blocky and featureless.
Back to Vesperia, I don't know why but the way Yuri holds and uses a sword bugs the shit out of me. All I can think is "YOU'RE GONNA DROP THE FUCKING THING YOU MORON".

You see that annoyed me at first too...then I found the answer.
Yuri does it because he's badass. Badasses do badass things like hold their swords incorrectly. It's in the Badass charter, section 14.2a.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmeeeeeeeeeeehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Hasn't Namco said "screw off" to the US for this one anyway?
They've pretty much said "screw off" to the US for all their portable games. Heck, Eternia had a full working english release on the PSP and yet no one bothered to bring over. Thankfully there are no region locks.

I always enjoyed these games because of the two player feature, i can finally play a game with my husband that is not an MMO or him destroying me in a FPS/ fighter.
Yuri is the best thing to happen to gaming women since Link.
I'm sort of bracing myself for it to be bad and I don't even know why.
The team responsible for the original worked on Vesperia and I have no idea how the other releases by the ToS2 team were received by fans. The fact that the overworld was cut due to time constraints doesn't fill me with confidence, and I believe either Emil or Marta has to be in the first slot of the party so presumably you can't actually play as anyone other than those two.
