Geeky Beanbag shapes (suggestions?) [UPDATE: Finished, with pics]

I've decided I'm going to make my boyfriend a beanbag for christmas. I want to be a bit more creative than just "here, have a beanbag in some primary colour", and I'd like to geek it up a bit for him.

He plays wow (casually now. When he played hardcore, he had a warlock, so I was thinking of making him a beanbag shaped like a voidwalker. But he hasn't played the warlock in awhile, so I don't know. He plays a warrior now.

He enjoys half-life, and portal, and that sort of thing. Waiting impatiently for Jumpgate Evolution... He's a big fan of the old nintendo classics - Zelda, Kirby, that sort of thing.

The beanbag doesn't have to be shaped like something, I could decorate it with pictures or words.

All suggestions welcome, I'm feeling a bit lacking in inspiration at the moment...

you could base the pattern off it on the companion cube

also, is this like a toy beanbag, or a beanbag chair?

A beanbag like a small hacky-sack kind of thing, or a big bean bag chair?

You could do a ? block from Mario, or (more complicated) a weighted companion cube from Portal.

Edit: Goddamn, tried to GIS a picture of it, took too long.

It's a big beanbag chair. I quite like the idea of Kirby, I less like the idea of having a giant pink beanbag in our house (everything else in the lounge room is shades of blue, brown or red).

The mario "?" box is a cute idea. :)

Make it Kirby, but have his mouth wide open so when you sit in the chair you're in his mouth.

I would make one of these, except I don't think Kirby needs the power to smoke pot, eat pringles, and play 360 all night.

Pac-Man. Geeky, but functional! You could use the "V" shape of his mouth as a back support.

I actually saw a bean bag shaped almost exactly like that once, so it's not entirely my own original idea.

Are you making this a chair? or perhaps a throwable object?

If it were throwable, I'd go with coins from mario or maybe a koopa troopa shell green/red or if he likes mario kart, then a blue spike shell. or a bob-omb! A yoshi egg sounds fairly simple too.

As for seats? I like the idea of a kirby or pacman.

Or how about a set of matching beanbags, two of them.
Take a look at the portal shirt. You could make two oval/spherical bean bags and have each of them be half black/gray (the shade from the game) and then the other half of each be that blue or orange portal with a stick person in it.

Or maybe black/gray beanbags with the aperture logo on one and the black mesa logo on another.

If he's a fan of puns and/or the DS, you could make a beanbag DSi as a joke. It won't look too different from the DS, but if you could sew one large flap of material to connect two rectangular bean bags, they could fold onto each other like a how a DS might open. On the inside you could write a note or put a picture of you two on the inside. For the pun, well, it looks like a DS and on the inside could be a picture of you, "DS & I" haha, get it.

I have never, ever tried making a bean bag so I don't know the extent of what's possible and not, but I've seen and played with hard beanbags before soo...

    EDIT:
oh my god, if he plays Team fortress 2, I bet he'd love to have beanbag demoman grenades in red and blue.

This does sound pretty frekking awesome!

If you're into the blue shades and WoW a void walker or possibly a regular bean bag with a frozen throne throw? I like the companion cube idea also.

Overall I'm still going to have to vote for Kirby with an open mouth though, when different people sat in it you could joke about what powers kirby gets, that chair would be a centerpiece of awesomeness even if its mighty pinkness stood out garishly against the rest of your decor.

i was also thinking of the first thing (matching ovals, blue/orange outline) until i saw the Kirby suggestion...please do that....haha...

as for the tf2 thing, i'd suggest a huge goofy Heavy face instead :D

Or if he's much of a puzzle player or likes Dr. Mario. You can make Dr. Mario pills and stitch a nintendo logo somewhere on them.

And i think a heavy face would be ridiculously difficult to make. Not that my other ideas are supremely easy, but...man, a bean bag face? (But yes, a Heavy's face as a bean bag would be awesome)

Does he like to play melee or brawl? You could make some of the item spawns as a collection of bean bags, like that pink & white capsule, the white ball, a smash crate, or a rainbow smash ball.

you could use beans instead of the scraps like they recommend.
of course, you could make it any size. they only show the hat sized one, but the instructions are still valid.

    Opps, me again.

I've decided I probably want to make him a companion cube beanbage. Which leads to the question - would a cube shaped beanbag actually be comfortable?

The other thing I think he would really love is something from Jumpgate Evolution, but I know nothing about the game. Does anyone who does have any ideas about objects that might be able to be turned into a beanbag?

A cube shaped beanbag could be just a softer-ish stool or something small to play with (i.e toss around)

    Well - update!

It got a bit delayed, because life happened, but I managed to finish his beanbag in time for his birthday. :)

    compcube2.jpg

    compcube3.jpg

Unfortunately, no pics of it in use because he doesn't want his face on the interwebs.

I was worried it would be a bit overlarge (I didn't really plan very well, I just bought appropriately coloured material and had at it, so the size was a bit of an Ooops moment), but he seems to like it that way, so it doesn't matter.

It more than comfortably takes 2 people lying down, and would probably happily sit 3 or 4. It's taking up quite a significant portion of our lounge room, but that's okay because we both want to show it off.

the only proper way to do a kirby is to make it so big you can actually make it hollow, and enter through the mouth.
