converting ms word to adobe pdf

KetherialKetherial Registered User regular
does anyone know of a good, free (and safe) program that allows you to convert ms word documents into adobe pdf format?

i've been searching around for a few and couldn't find anything that seemed trustworthy.

i also tried a few websites (fast pdf and express pdf) but they were both unreliable.

any suggestions?

    CutePDF Writer

Install this, GhostScript 8.15 (also free) and print to it like a printer.

Also, OpenOffice can read MS Word files and has PDF exporting built in.

If you have Office 2007: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=4D951911-3E7E-4AE6-B059-A2E79ED87041&displaylang=en

Then you can save the file directly in the .pdf or .xps format.

I've got kinda a weird PDF question, and I remembered this thread. I've got a graph for my thesis that I need in PDF format. Our graphing program (Origin), normally outputs to PDF just fine, but I've got the stupid symbol π in there, and it apparently screws stuff up. So I think to myself, "Maybe I can just open up the PDF in Notepad and change it." So I've found the place where the text is input, but the file is encoded ANSI I think. I can't drop the Unicode character for pi in there. I can't change the encoding and drop the pi in there. I've tried reinserting it using a symbol font instead, and still no pi. Does anyone know a quick easy way to get this in without having regenerate the entire graph in some other program?

PDFCreator is another one of those printer type PDF creators, similar to the CutePDF already linked. I prefer it because it's open source, and none of that free vs professional nonsense.
