The battle of Thermopylae is the battle in which 300 spartans defeated 100,000 Persians via tactics, superior fighting, and choosing to fight in a narrow passageway. They only lost because a Greek traitor led the Persians around so they could surround the Spartans.
When told that he and his men would receive quarter for their valiant fighting if they laid down their weapons, the king of the Spartans replied "Come get them."

Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.

It was more like a million persians. 700,000 is the conservative number.
I'm not sure if this quote is historically accurate, but it is the best one ever:
Persian: "Our arrows will blot out the sun."
Spartan: "Then we shall fight in the shade."
This will be the best movie, badassity-wise, ever made.
I have to admit I've been watching the trailers for this movie almost daily for a week now. Even if it turns out to be a bad movie the visuals alone will be worth the price of admission if you ask me.
But I have faith it will be a fun, violent action flick steeped in the inky goodness of its comic book origins.

That's like uppercutting Jesus.
You have to be a special kind of badass to do that.

The Spartan King is the spartan that said that. Close enough.

Just in case anybody didn't know, the guy who directed this is slated to direct Watchmen. All signs point to it being maybe a pretty rad adaptation, and at least a faithful one. He's said if he has his way the movie will be set 1985.
It sort of stalled for a while and Paul Greengrass moved on and did United 93. I think it's actually kicking into high-gear now though. Supposedly there's a script by David Haytor that's really good, or so the internets tell me.

Is this Solid Snake David Haytor, or some different one?

The very same. He's written quite a few screenplays including the first two X-Men movies.

According to the wiki, Alan Moore said Haytor got as close to the book as he could get. It's not an approval, but you would never get Moore's approval on a film adaption of any of his books. Also considering the quality of the X-Men films, this may not be a fuck-up.
Really, I think the director being willing to set the movie in 1985 shows that he understands that this is not the kind of thing to mess with. I don't know if the setting will work, but it's a ballsey move.

I heard Hayter's script got thrown out and he got fired. They had the screenwriters and director and everything all ready and they had a cool script and everyone was excited but then the studio came in and threw everything out.
Last I heard from either AICN or CHUD.com, they were going on a draft that some guy had done that was based mostly on Haytor's script. Snyder was apparently looking to maybe ditch it and go back to Haytor's because this new one was trying to turn it into an action movie.
I also read an interview with Haytor a while ago where he talked about Watchmen and how dedicated he was to getting it made, and made right.
I just want to say that I would have absolutely killed to see Paul Greengrass adapt Watchmen, but Zack Snyder sounds pretty damn capable.

Woah woah WOAH.
Are they really setting this in an alternate 1985? Without trying to force it to be "relevant?" Holy SHIT. I am all over this now.
Watchman should never be a movie. It is damn close to the perfect comic book, and uses the medium so perfectly that I cannot imagine a movie working nearly as well as it should. Perhaps a big HBO series or something, but not a movie.

Its a good thing Hollywood has literally hundreds of ideas from comic books to pilfer. I'm really looking forward to seeing this though. Im gonna see if I can find it in a shop before the movie comes out.
Those two sentences don't make sense when you put them together.
They do if you're not in love with everything he's ever done. No matter how much Hensler and I disagree on the subject, it's still not work $30 to me. It's worth $17.82, I guess, but not much more.

I agree. I work at a Books-A-Million and decided to go through the book during one of my breaks. I definitely wouldn't pay $30 for it. It's an interesting read, but it's really nothing too extraordinary or ground breaking (like most of Miller's work).
Now the movie, on the other hand, looks like it could provide a solid 1 1/2 - 2 hours of awesome fun. Also, as competent a filmmaker as Zak Snyder seems to be, i hope he drops out of the Watchmen film just like everyone else has. It really shouldn't be made. The only way i could see it happen is if it were to be made into an animated limited series. No live action, well-cast voice actors and a good amount of time to actually tell the story.

It's about Thermopylae.

looks like 'zoo' with a bloodstain on it if you ask me

I am an art student and think that it looks terrible and the art direction is also terrible.
I have a huge hard on for the battle of Thermopylae, this just looks so bad.

Not trying to raise this from the dead, but a new trailer is available and I thought you guys might wanna check it out.

I plan to see it, possibly more than once.
Pretty much status quo for the new one. I still want to see this something fierce.

I, at least, have high expectations.
