Sega's TGS - New SRPG Shining Force, LET'S TAP, Bayonetta, Infinite Space & more

For those who aren't aware, Sega's TGS stream is going on right now.

Watch it here using WMP and VLC

Here's a rundown of what sega brought to TGS:

SHINING FORCE FEATHER
shiningforcefeather2008jv3.th.jpgthpix.gif

Shining Force Feather is a new entry into the series - the first SRPG since Shining Force III. It features a heavy emphasis on an arial story line. And, because it needs to be reiterated - it's the first SRPG in the series since Shining Force III.

INFINITE SPACE
Infinite Space is holy what the fuck awesome. Otherwise known as "the OTHER platinum games creation besides Mad World and Bayonetta." It's a DS space RPG in the vein of Xenosaga. Lots of space ship building. Thing Star Trek.

SONIC AND THE BLACK KNIGHT
Sonic & the Black Knight is a sequel to Sonic & the secret rings, and crush 40 is doing the soundtrack. It also looks really good.

SONIC & THE BLACK KNIGHT TRAILER

BAYONETTA
WHAT A FREAKING OVER THE TOP TRAILER. Bayonetta looks like a mix between DMC and God of War. The lead character seems to be insanely over the top, and the gameplay looks a lot like DMC, but far more over the top. At one point, Bayonetta was shown running along a gigantic character's sword, shadow of the collosus style. At another point, she did this huge-ass combo, ending off with her hair turning into a guillotine, at which point she snapped her fingers and executed the person she was fighting. At another point, she looked like her hair engulfed her and she transformed into a giant beast looking thing.

LET'S TAP!
Yuji Naka's first game with Prope. It's "so easy even a penguin can play it" and doesn't even use the controller! You place a wiimote onto a provided "let's tap" (read: Pizza) box and tap your fingers on it. It looks to be a collection of mini games (one looked just like DK jungle beat) and has the most catchy themesong ever. Don't click here unless you want to hear one of the catchiest songs ever. "let's tap, lets tap, user tapping game!"

YAKUZA 3
Makes me cry for shenmue III.

I'll reformat this post as more stuff becomes available. Also, it seems the show is over and now they're just reshowing trailers on the stream.

    Yes. YES!

After seeing the footage of Black Knight in the Nintendo Media Summit trailer I had a feeling it'd be a direct sequel and I'm glad it is.

I was going to ask what system Shining Force was, but then I got a better look at the screenshot. DS. Good stuff.

Any other description on Infinite Space? You know, genre? System? :P

A tad? She uses her hair to attack, and more of her skin is shown the more complicated the move.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infinite_Space
Infinite Space is a science fiction role-playing video game that allows the player to design and control a spaceship. The player can customize the ship with over 150 different design models, along with over 150 possible crewmembers. After designing a ship, the player can explore an expansive game world with a story spanning two galaxies. Characters seen in the game will be displayed in 2D, while ships, exploration, and battles will all be in 3D.[3]

The player navigates the ship using the Nintendo DS touchscreen by first choosing a destination, then engaging the engines to move towards that destination. Spaceship battles occur in real-time, with attacks utilizing a "command gauge" feature. As the command gauge builds up, the player can use it to perform attacks against an enemy ship. The rate at which the command gauge fills depends on the crew of the ship, so a more skilled crew will increase the capabilities of a ship. When the player boards an enemy ship, the player takes control of their character to fight through the ship.[3]

Ohhhh, I think I have heard of that. Damnit, it almost sounds like something I'd want, except that I know it really isn't.

But I will be watching because it sounds cool. Except I fear the inclusion of an Advance Wars style set of characters and plot, which would put me right off.

Sweet christ, a real, live Shining Force SRPG. I was just replaying Shining Force CD on my PSP the other day. I was getting to the point where I would commit grave sins just to replay Shining Force 3 again.

Thank whatever deity was involved in making this happen.

I'm pleased that SatSR is getting a sequel. Hopefully they won't make the controls at the start of the game suck this time and polish some of the cases where the controls were iffy (I've been launched into the abyss by a homing attack that failed when it shouldn't have). And have the camera zoom out some when you're moving backwards. That would take care of my complaints.

Not quite. There's some Valkyrie Profile-ish action where you press assigned buttons in order to attack iirc.

Hmm... that's an interesting addition. I'm really hoping that this Shining Force game is good enough to really stand out amongst the flood of SRPGs out there now. I do admit that this TGS looks really promising for SEGA, so I hope things turn out well for them.

It's kind of sad that the best thing I can say for them has a lot to do with hope. Please don't break our hearts again SEGA :(
