As you may know, Gametap is a subscription service that allows you to play something like 700 game, including awesome games like Torment. It'l carry the new Sam & Max games when they come out.
Well for the next couple weeks you can sign up for $5/month. The catch? You have to pay for an entire year up fromt. So for $60, the price of one next gen game, you get access to hundreds of games for a year.
I'm seriously considering doing this, because $60 is insanely cheap. It is usually like $15 per month.
ps yes I know about the thread on page 2, but I thought the new topic title would bring in a few new viewers.
Oh, man that's really good. I've been wavering as I have little time to play physical games that I own, but that's an awesome price. Plus, even my Dad is interested in game tap. What's a good gamepad to use with the service?

If you have a PS2 controller, buy a ps2 to USB adaptor. I think radio shack sells em, as does lik sang. I have a Smart Joy brand one, it's pretty good.
Gametap is still crappy. For $60, I'd rather have an actual copy of the game that doesn't expire after a year or when the company goes bankrupt. Now, if only it were like Stardock where I download a copy, archive it and burn it to DVD, and I'll always be able to reinstall the game, and I don't have to login to "unlock" it or authorize my computer or whatever the hell they make you do nowadays for DRM.

Just because you'd rather have a hard copy of the game doesn't make gametap crappy. Gametap has dozens of games people scour ebay for....Planescape, Homeworld, Baldurs Gate 2...
And your ideal scenerio is unrealistic, unless you pay per game.
I'd say exactly like a virtual console. Infact, Gametap was announced either a couple weeks before or a couple weeks after Nintendo announced the VC service for the Wii.
Like I said in the other thread, its a good selection and worth the money. They have online play with a bunch of their games now, but I'm pretty sure they still havent done SF2 or SFA3, which is majorly diappointing.
I had it a few months ago. Seemed like a really big waste since none of the games are multiplayer. You would think for a monthly service they would have some sort of multiplayer or stat tracking. Basically some sort of community.
Plus they pulled the business model where you can easily sign up online, but the only way you can cancel is to call them and have a rep ask you for all your info and try and convince you to stay. That's a big no no.
Also... can I like.... be unjailed.

I'm pretty sure every single gametap game runs fine, especially in XP. Otherwise...you know...that'd be retarded.
Edit: So the games I downloaded yesterday (Planescape and HoMM III) are not no longer on my computer today? I have to redownload them, and they're huge games. What the hell? Did gametap just delete them off my computer for no reason or what?
Are you trying to run them outside of gametap? Cause that wont work. If you are, maybe it's just updating (it does that sometimes) and NOT doing a full download and third posibility: uh.... you're fucked?

Everything's fine now. I clicked "get the game" and it instantly let me play it, so whatever.

Actually, it looks like they DID add online play to SFA3 and the SF2 versions with the latest update. FINALLY.

Say what?
Anybody wanna confirm?
Saw this at DigitalLife today and tried it out, looks friggin spiffy. Sam and Max and tons of Street Fighter stuff. So awesome.
$5 a month seems right, and offer expires on October 22nd.
Think I'll try out a free 7 day trial before subscribing.
BTW, what are the rare games on this service?
I've never heard of Baldur Gate before ???

Enreddenated for ZOMG can't believe it value.
It's one of the best series of computer RPG's ever. It's up there with Fallout. They're based on old school 2nd edition AD&D. Pretty good story, lots of open-endedness. Overall, they are very great games, and pretty much epitomize computer RPG's.

Your games make me go :?:
AD&D? Fallout?
The oldest PC game I've played was Sam and Max, and maybe Civ or Sim City. I was never really a PC gamer. Then again, my family got our first PC in about 99.

The service sounds neat, but their latest commercial is horrendous. They should do the Head-On thing where they bash it themselves.

That, or get an xbox 360 controller.
Puzzle Fighter!
But since this is here, I feel this bears repeating:
Star Jacker
Not sure if this deal makes it cheaper or more expensive to play them in the long run.
Yeah, could just pay 10 buck every six months and take care of all the episodes up to that point.
Steam ID: Good Life
IT HAS PHANTASY STAR 4!!
I'm totally signing up for this.
Well, maybe. Nintendo and Telltale are in talks to get S&M Wii-bound,aren't they?
Hey, watch these videos of mine. DO IT.
Telltale announced that there will be a non-gametap version, but it comes out a month later.
15 days later. Nov 17th on Gametap, Oct 1st on the Telltale website.

Beyond Good & Evil should be required playing.
It's owned by Turner.

I tried the trial of Gametap for a few days and ended up subscribing. It's great. I can finally play Planescape! And I'm enjoying it so far.

And Baldur Gate sounds cool.

(In short, school me on every single classic PC game I need to play, and why GameTap rocks)
