So, since I stopped working my summer job up in Minnesota, and I moved back into town to go to school, I've been in a perpetual job search. I finally got a bone thrown at me after a month, and started working at a Burrito place across the street from me. I got called one night when I was out working on a project for the student organization I belong to. I left early, showed up and talked to the manager, and was working there the next day for a few hours, just so they could see how I worked out.
I didn't get a call for another week and a half (after calling them several times with no returned messages or calls), until they called on thurdsay when they wanted me to work Thursday-Saturday. It worked out fine, the hours were great, and the tip money was well needed. However, I told them when I was hired that I needed a specific weekend off (two weeks ago), because of the student organization I am a part of had a conference that I volunteered to work with, and pretty much couldn't miss due to previous promises I made.
They said no problem, so I didn't work that weekend. The week after, I called in for my schedule on Wednesday for the weekend. The girl working said I wasn't on the schedule and told me that she would leave a message for the manager. I called back the next day, and I still wasn't on the schedule. They didn't call me the entire weekend.
So now, it approaches my usual work period again (Thursday-Saturday) and no call.
I just called them again, and got the same girl again. She said shes been working all the shifts all week, and has been wondering why they haven't had me come in. I told her I just want to know if I am working the weekend, and if they even need me to work there in general anymore, because I'm sick of being given the run around when it comes to this job. I feel like I'm on constant call, and need to be available all weekend in case they need me in there. So I've been unable to go out at night, or even drink a beer before 9:00, just because they might call me in.
This weekend, the majority of the Metalsmithing department is heading down to (or already has) Memphis, TN for another event to volunteer. I'd like to go, but after calling them twice so far this week, the manager still hasn't returned my calls so I don't know if I am even going to work this weekend. In the mean time I've been applying to every job I can.
Do you think I should quit, or just wait it out? Because after nearly a month and a half of interaction with this employer, I've been given the run around or completely ignored more times than I can count on my hand.

At this point I would consider it a kind of reverse job abandonment, I think they've let you go but no one bothered to tell you.
I agree. At best, the manager is an idiot and forgot to call you back. (do your really want to work for someone like that?) Worst and most likely, you were let go and no one felt the need to tell you.
Restaurant biz is like that sometimes. He might need you, but business might be bad.
Every restaurant I've ever worked at, there was no interview. Just a "come in this weekend" Every restaurant save for one, I was "fired" by simply not being on the schedule.
