From kotaku:
"Blizzard just announced that StarCraft II's single player campaign would be split o three separate products! The scope of the single-player experience was so huge they decided to deliver three different products. The first product will focus on the Terrans, with the Zerg next and finally the Protoss. The story will stretch across all three titles."
I am going to take the role of therapist and ask you "How does that make you feel?"

What?
They better be really, really diverse. I mean, if there's enough content there to make three titles, awesome. Otherwise, well, the response should be obvious.
I mean this is seriously the most ludicrous thing I have ever heard if it is true. I'm not paying $150 for one game. Anyone who does is stupid as fuck.
Coming soon: WoW: WotLK: Death Knight Edition is a seperate game. To create a Death Knight, you must purchase this seperate expansion. They wanted to make it seem more epic.
Also, to experience the content with your other characters, please by WotLK: Current Characters Edition.
If you want to create any new characters through, WotLK: Non-DK edition.
Honestly this is just going to encourage a shitload of piracy.
I think it'll encourage a shitload of piracy from people who still buy one copy, since SC2 will be by and large an MP game anyways.
Yeah, exactly. Buy one and pirate the other two.
Not to mention that the economy the way it is encourages piracy, the fact that Blizzard would do this shit now is ridiculous and is the worst move they've ever made as a company. Talk about alienating it's fanbase, not all of them are 16 year olds with parents who buy all their games.
This is worse than the DK transfer thing... what total greedy bullshit.
These have to be the best single player campaigns in history to justify this sort of expense.
I wonder if their secret MMO is going to make people buy it twice or more to play each faction.
What DK transfer thing?
For Wrath of the Lich King, the original policy was "If you have a lvl 55 character, you can make a Death Knight on any server"
Last week it changed to "You have to have a lvl 55 character on the specific server to make a Death Knight"
The catch is, they will allow transfers. So the only reason not to unlock it for all servers is that they want the $25 transfer fee.
Laaaaame.
If these cost more than $30 each, I don't think I could justify buying them. Once you have the engine/art/balance completed adding more missions is rather quick (and relatively cheap) work. And in order for Multiplayer to work, they already need the art assets/balancing done by the time the first game launches.

Well really even then it's not like they're losing any more sales than if they just put it all on one disk.
Like, now they have the following possibilities:
1: People will buy all 3
2: People will buy 1 and pirate 2
3: People will pirate 1-3
3 would happen either way, for the weird 3 people total that don't care about multiplayer for Starcraft,
2 would happen if it was one game
1 only happens this way.
..and they're releasing them sequentially as well? FUCK THAT.
If they gave you a choice from the get-go that'd be okay (to me). They don't, though, and you can't choose which one you want to play first.
Well, they're released in that order since that's what it's going to be chronologically.
You wouldn't want them to release the last part first, would you?
But, yeah, lots of uninformed nerd rage in the threads. The Terran campaign sounds like it's going to be bigger than the other campaigns *combined*, plus they demonstrated a bit about how it's going to be non-linear, where the story can branch and fork off depending on what you do. Go off and save the farming colony? You might have a bunch of new allies that can open up different missions for you, but you'll miss out on digging/"liberating" the alien artifacts from Mensk's forces that you could've sold for mad cash.
All that awesome stuff, with the extra voice acting, and extra missions, just makes the game bigger, but they had to draw a line somewhere. They said that they had a few different ways they could've gone. Compromise and make all the campaigns in the box, but they'll have to be smaller and probably more linear (ala the campaigns of old, or the crappy DoW ones), or go to the nines and make the best campaign possible and split them up.
Also, it should be mentioned this isn't "triliogy-itis", like Halo or Gears of War or Too Human. Each game's story will be full, and wrapped up by the end. To use the quote they said at the panel, there's no "Lost episode, come back next week!"

Yeah this is bullshit. What happened to taking as long as needed to get it done right? This is just a money grab. They saw how much money WoW pulls in and they can't justify all the effort they're putting into SC2 without pulling some kind of stunt. They kinda seem like they're flailing around a bit with SC2. I like all the experimentation, but it's a bit worrying that they don't seem to have any idea what the hell they're doing. And now this. Well.. here's hoping we don't need to buy 5 copies of Diablo 3 to play all the classes.

Or split like a season of Sam and Max? Then thats pretty cool.
I mean seriously. What?
That's pretty money-hungry of Blizzard to do with their already bajillions of dollars profit from WoW. Just print more discs Blizzard. Jeez.
What the hell?
C) How does this affect multiplayer?
D) Serious, WTF?
Edit - Also, checking the calendar was also my first reaction - I thought it was a little late for April Fools....
I am a freaking nerd.

...and they can totally get away with it because everyone'll hate it and buy them all anyways.
we can still play all races in MP right? Then i don't really care

This better have the most awesome single player campaign ever.
And cost 20 dollars a game...I already know that's not true
"No sir, I don't like it"
I wonder if they will back down because of a overwhelming negative reaction.
edit: fuck, saw the screenshots...
Did they promise a certain amount of content or something?
I am now expecting the internet to revolt, and they will relent.
But then they say "Ok, but we'll have to cut back on *insert feature here*
/end conspiracy theory.
The harder the rain, honey, the sweeter the sun.
Yes. Lots. Blizzcon is on right now. It is official.
I would be very, very surprised.
But I bet they'll back down because of overwhelmingly bad sales.
Which won't happen because.... Starcraft 2
What DK transfer thing?

wait what...

I mean, seriously Blizzard. What the hell?

It's either release them sequentially or wait another two years until they're finished with the other two to get to play Starcraft 2.
Funny, the people at Blizzcon didn't seem to take it so bad, what with the raucous applause.

Those people payed $100 and countless more expenses just to see what the company is doing and play their games early.
They won't bay an eye at paying $150 for Starcraft 2.
