Megadrive/Genesis and new teevees

I'm trying to troubleshoot a friend of mine's attempt to indulge their gaming nostalgia by hooking their Megadrive II up to their LCD HDTV remotely. This has not gone spectacularly. I should point out that this is happening in Australia, we use PAL and the PAL-60 standard was nowhere to even be thought of back when the Megadrive was out and about.
When they turn on the device they get a blue screen and a Connection error message. Is there a known issue with older consoles and new teevees or is this a cartridge connection problem?
hummmm this is a tricky one. it all depends on the tv. i take it you are trying to connect with the standard pal RF lead that comes with it?
if its with RF it works like an analog arial signal and you need to tune it in. ie pic a not used tv channal then go into the manual tuneing and i think its around 40 or there about.
make sure your tv is looking for an analog chanal if it has a bulit in digital free view.
i dont know if they ever made a scart for megadrive. coz that would have been easyer.....
also i think any light gun games and stuf like taht wont work with new tv's.

I have an LCD HDTV, and it's my understanding that LCDs generally are unable to display low resolution images. I live in the US so I don't really know anything about PAL signals, and as such this may not apply to you.
My TV for example has no problems with displaying games that are running at 640x480i and above, but cannot display 320x240. This means that I can't play anything older than my Dreamcast on it. There are also a few PS2 games that run at 320x240 (Ico, Music Generator 2) that my TV cannot play. I have an old 24" SD CRT that I use for my older systems.
Also, normal lightguns will not work on an LCD TV. The gun itself isn't able to "see" the screen like it can on a CRT. I understand that to get around this, lightguns on next-gen systems swill use a sensor bar similar to the Wii Remote.
What signal cables are you using to plug it into the TV? My Super Nintendo (hey, just as old a system) works on my HD LCD television, probably because im using my Nintendo 64 AV cables to send the signal from my SNES. If your using one of those hell old shitty signal cables, that could be the issue. The TV might not recognise it. Did the Megadrive support AV ports? If so, maybe try getting a hold of one of those somehow. Sorry if this isn't any help.
Do Australian TVs typically have SCART sockets? You might be able to get hold of a SCART cable for the Mega Drive and hook it up that way, with the added bonus of tasty RGB graphics.
ive been looking for one of those for a while now. if anyone has any luck post up on here.
but as far as i know the mega and master system where only RF connection

There's a scart connector, I tried to hunt one down recently too but they're pretty pricey. Apparently (I could be wrong, this is from memory) it uses the same RGB cable as the Neo Geo.
Any LCD TV should be able to play megadrive games, it's not about resolution at all. The issue is sometimes standard definition images look terrible. If an LCD tv couldn't display SD resolutions then DVDs and VCRs wouldn't work. An LCD monitor is a different issue as, usually, they only have VGA and DVI/HDMI input.
If you're getting that message I would say with 99% certainty that it's a console issue and not an issue with the output device. The megadrive I suspect can't even tell if it's plugged in to a TV or not. Try blowing on the contacts? Or if you're feeling daring open it up and give it a clean.
and you have to tune it in like an analog tv channal.
my tv comes up with a no signal error message . untill i went into maual tuneing and set it to the fight signal from the megadrive.

Sounds daft but have you tried a different game?
