This has bothered me for years. I watched this movie when I was seven, and it scared the shit out of me.
Description: It's about this boy (a black kid probably around twelve but maybe he was a bit older?) who's growing up in a ghetto. In one scene, a girl he's got a crush on is shot by a gang member in a school-yard. Also, there's a dog-fighting scene, and his older sister ends up becoming a prostitute. One other thing I remember, is the kid enjoys chess.
Anybody know what this movie might've been? I kind of want to watch it again, see if it was any good.
