Hi guys, I'm looking software to fit the following criteria, if anyone has any ideas...
1. A very simple text editor, it can't have too many features and doesn't need to have any page layout capabilities (about as simple as text edit). It does need spell checking, and simple text formatting (font, size, bold etc.)
2. Autosave, ideally without wiping the ability to rollback any changes ever made to the document (like google docs).
3. Offline though
That's actually it. Basically, its for my dad to use when he writes and he's not particularly computer literate.
TextEdit will actually autosave (at least in Leopard). You can set the frequency in TextEdit -> Preferences, then clicking the open and save tab. The default is 30 seconds. You do need to create an initial save though. I'm not sure about the ability to rollback...
If he just needs a basic word processor, have him use TextEdit or OpenOffice. In TextEdit (which is already on his mac), if you go Format>Wrap to Page, it changes the format to look more like a word processor -- and already has all the features he needs (OS X has a spellcheck built into it).
If he was doing coding, I'd suggest TextWranger or BBEdit, but it sounds like he just wants to write. So TextEdit is free, and if he wants something a little more fancy, NeoOffice J (which is OpenOffice) would be fancier.

You can actually have text edit use Wrap to Page by default. It's in its preferences.

OpenOffice 3 is mac-native now, and doesn't require X11 like prior versions did. NeoOffice J works just as well, though.
