My computer has the sniffles?

I'm getting 'Windows Defender' security alerts that I suspect are fake.

Edit: To elaborate, the files in question are always named in some blatant thing such as TROJAN.urfucked.hahaha, and I'm being offered adware cleaners that I've never heard of.

I've been around the internet enough times to know that this doesn't feel kosher. Suggestions?

I've looked at hijackthis and it would appear that what I have is called "Zlob." And from the way my computer is suddenly wigging out I may have something else as well.

I'd really like to try adaware but uhh...$27? Not gonna happen.

You can also try malware bytes. My dad stumbled across this and swears by it.

Download AVG and Adaware (both have free versions) and do a complete scan of your PC.

Malware Bytes seems to have done the trick, but I think it left remnants behind, because now on startup I get dll errors that don't seem to affect my system at all.

Thanks thanks thanks. I used to be an old pro, but time away has made me careless, I guess.
