Online game stores

I just got the ability to buy online with a credit card again, so I wanted to know about good online stores from which to buy. I already know of Play Asia (which is the store I've bought more stuff from in the past), Amazon and DVDboxoffice, what other stores can be trusted?

http://www.ncsxshop.com <--- Is this a good store? I mean, can they be trusted?

Seeing as how the name of the site he linked to is National Console Support, and he seems to be interested in importing Japanese stuff, I'm guessing he's not too interested in Steam.

Yesasia is also a good alternative to importing Japanese products as well. Also, yes ncsx is a good store.

National Console Support can most certainly be trusted.

http://www.gogamer.com has some pretty good "48 Hour Madness" deals every now and then.

Because no-one plays PC games and Console games.

I didn't realise Amazon and DVDboxoffice were Japanese either.

Seconding gogamer. I've been able to save a decent amount of money on new releases there and the free/cheap shipping is usually very fast. Kinda like newegg before they had the whole 3 day shipping thing (which means 3 days exactly, no less no more).

And you hit the bulls eye! Hehe. The suggestion is still appreciated since I will probably want to buy from Steam, but not right now. My computer is probably not going to be able to run most games.

What kind of games does Good Old Games have? I'll check out GoGamer.

Games that are both good and old.

More serious answer: Mostly earlyish Windows games, with tweaks to work under XP and Vista.

They have Freespace 2, which means anyone with a computer more recent than 1997 or so should pay them eight dollars and buy it.

    BAH!

    www.half.com

Bookmark it. Every single one of you. I'm serious-- this is the place to get your games. Easy to buy (just like online shopping) and the shipping isn't bad (it depends on your user, but I usually get mine within a week or so).

How can you tell if a DS game is counterfeit? I wanted to get Tingle's Rupee Land and the only result I got from Half.com was http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=139973&item=110296322503

Wow! Thanks, that's awesome! I'm so glad I asked here.

Why is it so cheap in Shopto.net? I will assume it's because it's a European store and eBay sellers tend to sell over-priced stuff.

It's been out for quite a while, and it's a fairly niche game, that's just a natural price drop I guess. Yeah, I imagine a lot of eBay sellers are buying it from Shopto and reselling for profit.

They are a fairly big UK based retailer, but also one of the small number that will ship internationally. There are very few Europe exclusive games, but when they do come up, shopto is often the best place to get them from.

£7.99 is pretty much the cheapest DS games ever go for in the UK, maybe £5. RRP for DS games here is like £30, but the currency conversion, international shipping, and PAL rape tax make Tingle's Rupee Land not much cheaper than RRP for USA DS games.

American and Japanese DS cases are black, similar to GameCube cases.

I'm pissed off at Steam starting yesterday. They "patched" Counter-Strike 1.6 so that your in-game name matches your Steam Community name, and there's no way to keep that from happening. Apparently they were already doing that for TF2, but come on, there's more important things to fix in 1.6 than community updates and avatars in the stats screen.

Plus now I have all these 16-year-old Korean kekekekeke-aholics trying to add me as a friend. Fuck that noise.

Is GoGamer good about delivering games on the release date when you pre-order? I'm tempted to pre-order Wrath of the Lich King just to be part of the launch madness.

Please explain how having a consistent identity across multiple games is a bad thing. I've seen people complain about it on the Steam forums and I don't see anything to complain about. Also, the process of adding someone to your friends list is no different than before.

Also, we have a thread entirely about Steam.
