LAUNCH DATE SET FOR EPISODE TWO OF PENNY ARCADE GAME
The Comedic RPG-Adventure Romp Turns Spooky In Time for Halloween
VANCOUVER, British Columbia - Oct. 22, 2008 - Grab your gardening tool and watch out for giant spiders, out-of-control asylum patients and wacko sanitarium administrators! Hothead Games announced today that Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness, Episode Two will be available via Xbox LIVE Arcade and via the Greenhouse digital distribution platform (
www.playgreenhouse.com) for Windows, Mac and Linux next Wednesday, October 29.
The madcap Penny Arcade experience continues in Episode Two of the RPG-Adventure romp! Rejoin Gabe and Tycho and go crazy in a whole new episode with more puzzles, areas to explore and levels to gain, all while moving ever closer to solving the sinister mystery hidden deep in the heart of New Arcadia. Players can jump right in with a fresh character and new customization options or carry over their looks and stats from Episode One. Plus, new difficulty settings allow gamers to play it safe or go insane, battling bigger and badder enemies than ever before.
Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness, Episode Two will also boast music from The Darkest of the Hillside Thickets, a Canadian rock band dedicated to promoting the literature of H. P. Lovecraft and a recent performer at the 2008 Penny Arcade Expo gaming festival. The song, entitled "Some Things Man Was Not Meant To Know," will enhance the game's closing credits.
"This game is all about the strange and insane world of New Arcadia and the Penny Arcade-style humor to be found in it," said Hothead CEO Vlad Ceraldi. "With the cool gameplay additions we've made, including longer gameplay, completion tracking and difficulty settings; extra Lovecraftian overtones in the world and music; and the perfect time of the year, everything just came together."
Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness, Episode Two is expected to offer players six to ten hours of gameplay, and is priced at $14.95 for the Windows, Mac, and Linux versions on Greenhouse and at 1200 Microsoft points via Xbox LIVE Arcade. The game has been rated "M" for Mature by the Entertainment Software Rating Board for all platforms.

But I'll buy this one at some point, for sure. 15 bucks is a much more appropriate price than the 20 they charged for the first episode.
Looking forward to it. The first one seemed to know a surprising amount about the kinds of pitfalls and flaws that other RPG's of this type tend to fall into. The combat was short and snappy, items had significant and noticeable effects, and the game didn't drag on but was generally well paced (providing you didn't get lost on what to do next, which I didn't really experience but I heard others did).
I can't help but wonder if there is still some experimentation going on as to what the optimal price point is for a marquee XBLA title.
That and development for this one was probably cheaper since they could reuse stuff done for the first one?
I am a freaking nerd.
Yes. And I believe Bamelin is referring to Ep. 2 being cheaper by 400 points ($5). Which it is.
A much more reasonable price to be sure, but I can't help but feel all the prices would've been better adjusted down by 400 points. Oh well... I liked the first one so I'll pick this up eventually.
Do not engage the Watermelons.
I bought Episode One on Greenhouse as soon as it came out, only to see it being released on Steam with achievements a couple of weeks later, so I think I'll wait a bit before buying this one.
I don't really care about achievements, so Greenhouse is Go for me again. Plus, the more middlemen you cut out, the more the devs make, which is always a good thing if the game's good.
I'd be grabbing this if Zavvi would ship my goddamned MS points already.
@gamefacts - Totally and utterly true gaming facts on the regular!
I had a blast with the first one, though $20 stung a bit. $15 sounds exactly right.

I've heard you can transfer your character between episodes. Should I stick to Greenhouse in that case or will it really make a difference where I buy it from?
The price drop is good news, also.
The first one actually is $15 right now on Greenhouse and Steam.
HELL YEAH!
Don't be. It was far from being great.
Not really sure I'll pick this was as I was desapointed by the first.

I'm desapinted by your terrible spelling!
Day 1 purchase for me, but I'll need to finish the first before then. I'm not far from the end.

I'll be getting it because I enjoyed the hell out of the first one.
I will be excited to play this but may wait a bit to buy.
I have Falling Out to do on Tuesday.
But first, the earlier October 1st trailer (which I did watch):

Oh, I know, but I'd rather get them all on the 360. Achievements, but mostly because my 360 is in the bedroom and my PC is in the main room and there's no way on earth that I want my daughter watching a game based on Penny-Arcade.
Steam ID : rwb36, Twitter : Werezompire,
I bought the game from Greenhouse, but didn't the Steam version come with achievements as well? I thought it did?
Why only if you had a 360? It's also coming for PC and PS3. The system requirements aren't particularly high and judging by your sig, you have a PS3.
The Steam version of Episode 1 does indeed have achievements. I've read that the Greenhouse version of Episode 2 will also have an achievement system, but I doubt it will be tied to an online system.

I haven't tried yet but I'm pretty certain that you do. Some items carry across, and you can only get the DivX "support" character that way.
At time of posting, I was unaware.
