Today is mole day, October 23, 2008.

The site is down right now because it's being flooded with people, but feel free to stop by the site and celebrate mole day.
If you didn't know, we celebrate mole day on 10/23 because Avagadro's number is 6.02 X 10^23. Mole day officially ends on 6:02 pm tonight. This is quite possibly the most nerdy day of the year, but the science building has food and prizes set out to celebrate this momentous day of chemistry.

    That would be 6/02 but 10/23 is the American Chemical Society sponsored official holiday.

    I haven't thought about moles since Sophomore year of high school.

    I think that's when I knew I did not want to be a scientist of the lab coat variety.

    Hahaha, awesome. Today is my girlfriend's birthday, too! She'll be glad to know she shares today with such a distinctive holiday.

    Also, it's the anniversary of the Creation of the World by God (Oct 23rd, 4004).

    My friends and I used to celebrate mole day and pi day by appropriately vandalizing bathroom stalls in our high school. Today would be for relevant and/or funny stoicheometry. On pi day, we had a friend that had memorized pi to over 300 digits or something ridiculous like that, so he'd cover an entire stall door with pi.

    We were rebellious little nerds.

    Well, probably slightly nerdier just because Avagadro's number is less known that pi.
