I went to a restaurant two weeks ago, paid with a debit card, and the charge still hasn't shown up in the online banking system. It's getting annoying since it means my checkbook is never balanced. I'm guessing I should call the restaurant to see what's up, but what would cause this? I've never seen anything like this happen before.
Actually, I guess I have, once it took 10 days for a gas station charge to show up. But gas stations always take forever. Usually with restaurants there's a pending charge for a while that is the pre-tip amount, and then it goes through with the tip.
Is it showing up in your overall balance? Meaning is there a discrepancy between available and posted? If so, you can easily keep track of it and you won't forget until it's adjusted. You can give them a call if it provides some peace of mind, though.
I've had a charge not show up for a month and a half. Which was odd, since my bank usually shows it a minute after the charge. I called the bank and they said it depends on how the resturaunt handles their charges.
Probably nothing to get worried about. But you should always keep the reciept until the transaction is fully processed.
