Okay so I've got all these old backups that I'm pulling off of decaying CD-Rs to put onto my new external hard drive but this was before I used iTunes so I relied on file structure to organize them, rather than ID3 tags. I would rather not re-rip a bunch of CDs that are stored away in boxes right now, so I need to efficiently add in the appropriate ID3 tags.
This has revealed to me an interesting shortcoming in iTunes: You cannot sort the library by file location. And I don't want to do these one at a time either. So I need something for OS X that will let me grab a directory and add an artist/album to every file in it at once. I would greatly prefer a free solution.

I don't know of any existing solutions, but a script could do this easily (Applescript, shell script). I don't want to write one for you because it would take about an hour to get everything right and it's of no use to me. Do you know anything about shell scripting? This might help:
