Good way of darkening shoes?

I'll keep this short:
I bought some nice leather shoes and applied mink oil to them. They were originally all dark brown and on the tube of oil it said it may darken some leathers. I don't see making my shoes darker would hurt them so, I applied it before bed - made sure to wipe off excess and let them sit over night. I wake up and apparently there were some deformities in the shoe that caused a section to lighten. I wasn't warned about this.
There are lighter streaks in my shoes now and is there any way I can make them darker without the process making them look blotchy?
