TCPIP.sys question

Mai-KeroMai-Kero Registered User regular
So I followed a speed guide to increase the number of half-open ports I can have at any time in order to increase the speed at which I can use bittorrent programs.

I used the patch to change the value in TCPIP.sys, and watched as the file I was downloading shot up from 80kb/s to 400kb/s within a few seconds. Unfortunately, about ten seconds after that, it rubberbanded back down to 20kb/s.

Any ideas on why this would happen?

Update: I tried another file and it was going at like 600 kB/s, and the original apparently sped up overnight because it was done when I got home from class this morning, so maybe it was just a temporary bad connection with other people thing.

You've been had. I'm going to assume that you're running XP. Modding the tcpip.sys file will not and cannot help you download faster. There are only 2 ways to increase download speeds on your end. 1) Properly configure your download client to your real world connection speed, specifically your upload speed. 2) Get a faster connection. What you also need to remember is that you cannot download faster than the upload speed of those you're downloading from.

What client are you using anyway?
