I bought the parts and built my computer nearly a year ago. Its been running great ever since. But today as I'm using it I keep hearing the fan on the processor going. I never used to hear it before, and now its noisy as hell. It also sounds like its laboring a bit. I had to buy a thermaltake processor fan because my dad broke one of the pegs on the one that came with the processor. Is this a problem? Should I buy a new one?

Funnily enough, whenever I smack the case, even just a light touch, the noise stops. Don't know if that means anything. PS I opened the case and made sure it was the processor fan by stopping the case fan. And even though its making noise its still spinning just fine.

Your bearings either have some dirt in them or are in need of a little lubrication. Just replace it (if it's easy and cheap to find and you have no lubrication handy).

    I recommend these:

(I have this one in my quiet PC)

did you actually stop the CPU fan to make sure that's the culprit? You probably also have a fan in your PSU, and on your video card... and those tend to fail more often

but yeah, if the fan is failing, replace it ASAP... you don't want to fry your CPU
