Twenty years or so ago, this system was aborted onto Japanese shores by a little known AMERICAN arcade company known as SEGA. Let us reflect on twenty years of gensisn't, and what's to come. Favorite games, favorite experiences, what have you, let's hear them.
Personally, I've had one for about fifteen years, and unfortunately it's been a bit of a downer. I have difficulty finding new and interesting games for the thing, or games that aren't NHL '94.
Not that I don't dislike the MD. Sega Channel has been amazing, and I actually have about 15 SMS games, even though I own so few retail games.
I'm really sorry to see that the dream cast was so underrated. I mean now many people appreciate it more but the dream cast was something that most people I knew just sort of blew off on.

to be fair, isn't wasn't the fans fault, but the developers. For some reason, everyone left the DC for the PS2. I didn't really notice it until all I saw for new DC games were things I felt I could find in an arcade.
Can you guys not realize this is mocking the 360 thread? Either way, I was able to get one from my friend when I was 11 or so, and it was played just as much as my N64 was.

I really do admire the Genesis though, even though I don't often play it.
The reason being? It put up such a fight against Nintendo, and split the world into east versus west.
Genesis was first out of the gate, got the big western support, had the incredible ad and word of mouth campaign. Sega was cool.
SNES had the amazing graphics, incredible sound, the eastern support, yet it was two years later and had a lot of ground to cover.
SEGA had the CD, the 32x, arguably the finest hummingbird based shooter, blood in MK1, more sports games, Sonic.
SNES had the Playstation (didn't come out) better controls in MK1, less sports games, oh, and arguably the finest library of Japanese games to ever grace one system.
But still, Genesis was a fighter.
360 is close to putting up a fight against the Wii. This time the battlefield has shifted. Instead of just west versus east it is West+PC+mainstream HD graphics versus East+casuals+waggle.

He's hiding in GAF, waiting for his moment to strike. He gives my heart no fear, as any true Nintendo fanboy is immune to anything Sega throws at us from that era.
Besides Segata of course. You'd be a fool not to fear him. But that should be saved for a Saturn landmark anyways.
I found a Genesis with 20 games for 20 bucks at Goodwill, also 2 controllers.
Then I found a Genesis model 2 for 5 bucks yesterday, it is awesome.
Whats the difference between them though?

I'm really sorry to see that the dream cast was so underrated. I mean now many people appreciate it more but the dream cast was something that most people I knew just sort of blew off on.
In Japan the Dreamcast actually went on to have a fairly long lifespan. It was no PS2 still but it had a long life and many new games made for it years after it was abandoned over here in North America. But yes you are right it was soooo underrated, it had so many cool things on it that other systems didnt have, it was ahead of its time, as were a lot of Sega systems. Look at Game Gear, that never really took off either, but it was full colour and backlit and had graphics on par with the SNES and yet was completely overlooked. It took Nintendo YEARS to get backlit colour gameboy, and their first attempt, Gameboy Color, was total trash.
On the side of the system the OP was talking about, that system gave us a few of the best RPG's ever, Phantasy Star.
EDIT: I also own 3 master systems.... i dont know if they all work...honestly i dont even remember where i picked them up, i know one i had as a kid...the other two i just kind of accumulated. I guess same reason i have 2 dreamcasts.
The fucking Game Gear had graphics on par with the SMS. As it was one. Only small. It also had a really shitty screen and really bad battery life. Also terrible games. There should have been just more SMS games on it with fixed resolution.
Of course the GBC was a terrible attempt at being a color backlit system. It didn't have a back light at all. It did however have a very high quality screen, some of the best games ever, and a battery life longer than 29.3 minutes on 2 AA as opposed to SIX.
Though on the subject of handhelds, the NOMAD does kick ass. If only for the size of the beast. I love it.

as far as I'm concerend GBC games were made for the super game boy.
I just wish Sega hadn't used Master System hardware as the sound processor for the Genesis/MD. I could never play my friend's Genesis because the BRANKs and BRONKs of that poor little Z80 trying to crank out music would literally give me a headache.

My favorite Genesis game is still MUSHA. One of the best shmups ever.
Shadow Dancer would also be high on the list, along with Streets of Rage.
Still, I love my Sega Genesis to this day mostly for this little gem:
The blue hedgehog to the war is gone
In the ranks of death you will find him
SEGA's sword he hath girded on
And his wild console slung behind him
"Land of Play!" said the blue hedgehog
"Though all the world betrays me
One sword, at least, thy rights shall guard,
One faithful fan shall praise thee!"
The hedgehog fell but Nintendo's chain
Could not bring that proud soul under
The console he lov'd ne'er run again
For he tore its chords asunder
And said "No chains shall sully thee
Thou soul of love and bravery!
Thy games were made for the pure and free
They shall never run in slavery!"

You win this thread sir. I tip my hat. Lunar is one of my all time favourite games and i have the big fancy box remake with all the cool stuff in it for PS1. Man that game is worth a stupid amount of money.
It kind of saddens me that Silver Star Story Complete is worth more than The Silver Star, since the latter is so much better.
Other than its the exact same game except complete is uncut and has cool cutscenes, voice acting and a massively improved musical score...wait how is Silver Star the original better?

Complete is uncut? You've got that mixed up.
They removed a ton from the original game. The dungeons are all smaller, as is the overworld, no random battles(which makes it much easier), and they changed a ton of aspects to the story. You probably shouldn't read this if you haven't played Lunar.
In the original:
Ghaleon murders Quark in cold blood after betraying Alex(no capture).
Royce and Phacia don't exist.
Alex plays a harp.
Luna doesn't go to Meribia with Alex.
The Vile Tribe kidnaps all of Burg's townspeople and replaces Alex's parents with demons after Quark's death.
Ghaleon has a completely different demonic-esque final form.
I could probably go on, but that's the major stuff.
The remake has a lot more polish, but I think it took away too much from what I enjoyed about the original.
And Eternal Blue for the Sega CD was stellar when it came out, since it had the same benefits of Lunar Complete; more animation, more voice acting, etc.
The Complete Lunar 2 doesn't quite have the same impact. Not really a negative though, just a nitpick.
