The Mysterious Explorations of Jasper Morello

For those of you who haven't seen it, The Mysterious Explorations of Jasper Morello is an Oscar nominated Australia short film, its a steam-punk silhouette animation that tells the story of Jasper Morello, an airship navigator haunted by memories of a crewman who died because of an error on his part. Its a fucking brilliant movie and features the voice talent of the Go-Go Mobile ads guy.

The reason i bring the movie up is that Monster Distributions have uploaded the whole thing onto Youtube.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vORsKyopHyM

Watch it, enjoy it and then go and buy the DVD so they get around to making more of them.

Reminds me of the old Tool videos with the marionettes. This style of animation could make an amazing game.

There are actually four short films, this is only the first one (The First Voyage - Jasper Morello and the Lost Airship). All of them are on the DVD.

I thought the same thing. I actually think a game like Metronome would be awesome like this... if Metronome wasn't vaporware...

Women. They can only propel themselves to the future through their ability to procreate, whereas we men have to rely only on what we create. We men of science have to stick together.

Still not through the whole thing yet, so I'll reserve judgment.

Right, but only about certain things. He's right about the propellant capacity of women. It's all in the specs for my time machine. If only I could figure out a way to fit them in the Mr. Fusion...

plus that statement is right in line with his character.

And the theme of the time setting. It's heavy with the Victorian styling so I'm not surprised by sexist characters in the slightest. Had he, for instance, tried to bring her with him you'd probably see the crew freaking out about a woman being on board.

Alright, I see now that the Doctor was nuts. However, the fact that Morello doesn't say anything against it is what piqued me. Still, it's set in Victorian times so I suppose I'll have to go along with it.

All in all a good little film. I'll be sure to recommend it to my friends. Thanks for sharing. :^:

This isn't actually correct, the dvd contains asper Morello and the Lost Airship and Anthony Lucas other short films Holding your Breath, Slim Pickings, The Shadow lands & The Amphibian. But he has been commissioned by SBS to produce the rest of the Jasper Morello stories, nfi when those are going to be released.

That was pretty neat. I was really confused for quite a bit, though, since I read the video description on YouTube, which seems to be describing the sequel instead.
