I'm sure someone here knows this. If I buy a 120G HDD and transfer all the stuff on my 20G HDD to it, do I also have to use the DRM tool to transfer the licenses?
I do you go about transferring all that stuff anyway? I've got about 1GB left on my 20GB HDD so I'm looking to upgrade so I can install games after the next update. Like, would I transfer all of my stuff to my PC and then from the PC to the HDD or what?
I meant for just tranferring from one HDD to another, same console. Do I have to redownload everything or can I transfer the data somehow? All my saves, no longer available DLC etc.
Fig-D: When you buy a 120GB HDD you get a cable that comes with it. You plug the cable into the back of your box, the other end into your new HDD, and you transfer it all. It's that simple.
PikaPuff: You don't upload anything. MS already have info on all the content you downloaded. It's all associated with your old console. Just log in to that site, use the tool, and then go into account management and redownload everything through your download history. This will reassociate all your licences with your new console and allow you to play it offline again.

If you sent your console in for repair and need to transfer licenses, DO NOT use the link. If you use the link, you only get one shot every 365 days. Repair is supposed to do it for you, but they are idiots, so you probably have to call them to get it done.
If you are buying a 120GB HDD for your current console, then no, it stays unlocked to that Xbox's serial number
DRM transfer is only needed if you get a new Xbox
That's wrong. Content is tied to a Console ID which is based off of your hardware configuration - HDD and Console. Changing harddrives changes your console ID.

"I've just upgraded to a larger hard drive and am re-downloading all of my content. Do I need to transfer the content licenses?
No. The content licenses are associated with the console, not the hard drive."
What's an easy way to test if my 360 is set up correctly or not? Unplug network cable, try to run XBLA game?
More effective would be to boot the console without a network cable.
For example, my dash theme is a PA made one that I purchased. My console just came back from repair, so if I boot it up with the cable, the theme displays fine. if I unplug it, it still displays fine.
If I boot without the network cable, the theme does not display. I get the default theme.
Redownloading does not resolve it, so I need to call MS to get them to transfer the licenses. My Serial did not change after repair, but I think the console ID did.
Alternatively, you can try accessing the content with an offline profile.

I'm pretty sure the HDD does not affect the console ID. I think its associated with motherboard and DVD drive.

I'm pretty sure if I'm not online at boot I get an orange default theme. So I call up microsoft then?

First step is to attempt to redownload. You should set your theme to default before you do this.
If the redownload does not resolve it, and your console was replaced/repaired through MS, call the 800# and have them do it for you. It isn't instantaneous, but try it again a few business days after your call them. They say they'll call you back, but that does not always happen.
My friend and I split the cost of the original RB and shared the instruments/disc back and forth every week or two. We both have 360's and it worked out pretty well.
We eventually decided that we would consolidate all DLC onto his HD/360 and have bought quite a bit of DLC, but only on his account/360/hd. Now with RB2, we have a TON of DLC, and when I have the game I'm pretty much SOL since I don't have the DLC on my HD.
He's been lending me his HD when I have the instruments to combat this, and there has been no real issue with me popping in his HD with all the DLC and playing the game with all the songs we've bought.
My question is - since I'm basically taking his HD from him for the week that I have the game, is there a way for us to buy another HD for him so he won't be without the use of his 360, and then have the HD with the DLC just kinda separate from everything else? Will that cause any issues with either of our machines using the HD with all of the DLC when we load up RB2? It will basically be used only to hold the DLC for RB2. I think it would work, but I'm not so sure... anyone have any experience?
The HDD doesn't matter, what matters is what gamertags or consoles bought the music. If there's a central gametag that bought the music, you could just put it on the HDD and make sure it's signed into Live so all the content unlocks. It gets a bit hairy after that though..
Also, it'd probably be cheaper for him to get a mem card than a HDD.

so if I already sent in my 360 how can i upload my certificates to the server?
hopefully my 360 isn't in this situation and I'm just being dumb, but when I got it back I couldn't play rock band DLC songs offline.

I have verified this myself
