Ok, I have a friend in California who went and got some meds from a free clinic, then started experiencing chest pains, she had to be admitted to a hospital and they found a blood clot in her lung, the clot being a direct result of the shitty free meds is the current theory. I want to know, oh scholarly PA law students, how strong a case would she have against the clinic or drug manufacturer or is there any loophole that can help her reduce the 30k bill that came with the hospital stay?
I think some more information would be helpful. Did your friend sign anything when she went into this free clinic and accepted the meds? It may not take a law student to tell you that she could have signed away her rights to sue the clinic for whatever damages result from the medicine she willingly took from them.

Shit, I didn't even think of that.
She says she signed the prescription, and papers to see the doctor. Shes not sure if she did in fact sign anything that would not allow her to sure someone.
oh if your wondering why i'm replying, I asked spacesatan too make the thread for me, cause jailed.

Current theory of whom? Are we talking side effect or some contraindication? What was the drug? The best answer has already been given (seek real counsel), I'm just curious.
Your friend needs to talk with actual counsel, ASAP.
This. A thousand times this. The collective hive mind of the PA forums, as mighty as it may be, cannot help your friend as much as an experienced attorney licensed in the state of California. And I would suggest that when he/she goes to see this attorney, they bring with them every last scrap of paper even remotely related to her treatment in this free clinic.
I'm interested to know what you went in for originally and what drugs they gave you. A quick search should show if this medication is known to have a side effect of blood clots.
Everywhereasign on
"What are you dense? Are you retarded or something? Who the hell do you think I am? I'm the goddamn Batman!"
It was my girlfriend who went in, and I'm actively finding counsel for her, but I just needed too know if I was missing anything, possibly that I didn't know about, in the way of financial help as well, because it looks like we're just gonna have too pay the 30k.
But when she went in, no medical insurance, and I don't know the name of the med right now, Asking her as soon as she gets back from work.
She went in because of a large red circle on her arm, I think she was given anti biotics cause they didnt know? I should ask more about what the clinic said, but we think its lyme disease.
Did you ever consider that they are two entirely unrelated events, the presence of a clot and the manifestation of lyme's disease. Antibiotics shouldn't be inducing clots. o_O
Get council, and make sure you speak to them before you pay a cent anywhere.
Just in case it hasn't been said enough already. Also, have you investigated what state health care your friend may be eligible for? The hospital should have someone on staff that can answer questions about public health insurance, or just pick up the phone and call the state office. In Arizona we have AHCCCS, and I do not know what the CA equivalent here, but a Google points here:

I said I wasn't a hundred percent on what she took, cause I don't actually know, just a guess.
But I did consider they were unrelated, but then my only course of action was too pay a large sum of money I don't have.

that's why we call it the struggle, you're supposed to sweat

They do indeed.
That as well - as generally this is the best and most common response to any legal matters you will get from H/A.
Hopefully things work out for your friend - I would be particularly interested to see where this goes and be updated on the matter.

I have 4 lawyers in my immediate family. Get council, and make sure you speak to them before you pay a cent anywhere.
