Yeah, honestly, I was interested until I saw they hadn't updated their graphics engine since the last game.
Stardock believes that if you want to PC game, it needs to run well on so many PCs as reasonably possible. Which is god damn good philosophy, if you ask from me.
I kind of like the graphics, then again, I've never been a graphics whore. I'd play this if they were still using sprites. Besides, minimalistic cell-shaded graphics are nice, even if these are just proof-of-concept types.
I just hope they have a race of hivemind antpeople. I loved playing as the Klackons. So what if I can't resea... um... generate mana very fast. I have ant people riding giant fire breathing beetles the size of elephants.
ANT PEOPLE. Riding GIANT FIRE BREATHING BEETLES. The SIZE OF ELEPHANTS.
Yeah, it's too bad they're the worst race in the game.
No, you just had to play them right. Less magic, more troops.

Bah, that kind of thinking is typical of low ball loser studios like Stardock and er, Blizzard.
One thing to consider: previews mention a Spore-like content delivery system for this game. I really hope that there will be filter for that (at least better than Spore's.)

Somehow in the past 5 or so years, Stardock has gone from being the small company that made the desktop widgets I used to pirate to the company that makes me giggle like a little kid with every game release, and pay full price for from their download service.
Thank you so much Stardock for yet another classic brought to modern times. Still, Impulse is cool and all guys, but it's not as good as Steam, work on that shit.
So what you're saying is that you need Blizzard's budget and development time in order to make lower polygon models with more primitive textures look good?

No, I'm saying Blizzard isn't a good comparison for any company because they have near infinite money and development time.
Discussion of the quality of the models is a completely different argument. Personally, I kind of like it. It looks kinda like they were shooting for something similar to Dominions 3.
If good art design has nothing to do with near infinite money and development time then I fail to see what's so objectionable about bringing up WoW's graphics.
First day purchase without a doubt. MoM was basically the first PC game I played. I still have fond memories of the Prima strategy guide, which was like a million pages long and packed with charts and tables and analysis.
Revive the thread! According to the developer website, a beta for this should be coming in approximately sixty days, which you can supposedly get into by pre-ordering. Sounds like good times to me.
God this game looks awesome! I can't wait to play a realy good turn based strategy game again And, if this does well maybe Atari will give them the MOO license and they can remake that using what they learned from GalCiv.
edit - and I read in one of their FAQs that they are using populous for the inspiration for the really high end magic! Let doom rain from the skies and shatter the very earth itself!
Stardock is one of my favorite companies and GalCiv II one of my favorite games. This is a day one for me. No doubt. No hesitation.

I'm glad this thread got revived or I'd have no idea about this. I used to play so much MoM. The graphics look great too! I love the style. Can't wait.

This is awesome news! I loved Master of Magic and would play it constantly.
Looking forward to this very much!

New article here. Shaping up great, also some new screenshots. Beta invites should go out to people who have pre-ordered between the 4th and 7th of Septemper
I am very pleased that they are focussing much on the diplomacy game. I've always loved that aspect, but in most games it just doesn't function well at all. (All NPC factions seem to turn out heartless betraying bastards).
The dynasty stuff sounds really interesting, and since the game is going to be fully moddable you can build some serious shit, probably work in Medieval: Total War type traits and succession. Your sovereign is supposed to be immortal but I dunno, I hope they change that/make it optional if the family tree turns out to be excellent. I've had it pre-ordered for ages, really looking forward to the beta, its going to be cloth map only (no rendered terrain or cities) but they showed off the full 2D build at PAX.
Ya know, I'll probably be buying this even though I suck balls at turn-based strategy games (and real-time ones too, wow I guess I just suck at strategy games!) and I'll probably never play it online. I will, however, play the shit out of it against computer opponents and will be happy.
They've said before that the game primarily focuses on the single-player experience so I wouldn't worry too much if you don't enjoy playing with others online.
It's not that I don't enjoy playing games online, it's that I suck balls and I don't really have the time to be able to schedule games (because these games usually take forever to finish) due to work and other real life things. That's good to hear they're focusing on the single-player experience though, I don't see that much anymore.
We've gotten no details on the 3rd mini-expansion. I wouldn't be surprised if it added a campaign mode but I think Ironclad might be waiting for Sins 2 to make a feature that large.

Agreed. I'd play an updated MoM even if it used tokens to indicate stuff.
Never use Blizzard as an example among different developers. Blizzard is unique.
Yess......

And my response was always "SPACESHIPS AND LASERS!"
But damn so excited for this.
Where do I preorder?
Basically, yeah.
The armies of Wangtopia are approaching!

There's an old podcast of GFW Radio (04/02/2008) where Wardell talks about that and the game in general (the game didn't have a name yet.)
Really? Because I can't think of any other game developer who receives as much funding for their projects, or as much development time.

Though Sins isn't really a stardock game.
