No... but because it's something that is still a stigma in society, everyone calls it Winick's soapbox...
No, I think that people refer to it as a soapbox because doing a quick search for Judd Winick and AIDS nets you nearly 17000 hits.
I get it, he lost his friend. It's an important topic. But you're also allowed to talk about other things, Judd.
Just so you know, typing in Conditional Axe and AIDS into a google search engine nets 60,000 hits. Maybe you shouldn't talk about AIDS so much...
I guess I just don't see the AIDS stuff overwhelming his writing. If I did, I would be singing a completely different tune. I mean, since OYL started it hasn't been mentioned once...

Mia tells Connor that her cell counts were up, or something, but she was worried that she was getting defined looking because of AIDS and Connor says it's because she works out or something

doh... I forgot. On the other hand, if she didn't have AIDS, all she would be doing is going "why are we on an island fighting evil assassins while the "hero" engages in white collar crime and corporate malfesence... "
So, as you can see, the AIDS angle works better...

In fact, I think it's really fucking stupid and does indeed smack of forced drama so Winick can hop up on his soap box again for another rousing after-school special.
Don't even get me started on that Outsiders arc. You know the one.

Well... you've offered a lot of good insight and... heeyyy.. wait a second... there's no insight here! No, no... this doesn't add up at all!

It doesn't have to be insightful. It's just my opinion on a lot that the man writes. Not all of it, just a large portion. It's like the media has made him so much the Topical Comic Writing Guy that it's all he knows how to do.

To be fair, I'm sure DC helps encourage that though... because it gives them some much loved publicity...
Judd: I'm thinking of making the new Speedy have only one leg... what do y...
Didio: Give her AIDS!
Judd: Well... the whole AIDS thing has kind of been done by me before... and really that's a very personal thing that has effect...
Didio: AIDS!!!

The one arc I saw him in he was just a typical Robin Hood guy... but he is banging Clark's future wife, so that's kinda cool.
Actually, he's pretty neat, to be honest.

Considering the actor playing Green Arrow used to be on Passions, that costume is probably a boost in the dignity department.
Keep in mind too, this is Smallville we're talking about. Mediocrity would be a boost in quality. And as I said in the first post, as someone who's never read the comics, I actually rather enjoyed this portrayal of the Green Arrow. As I read more of the character, I'm sure it will become more and more of an abomination though.

Nah... he reminds me of a young Green Arrow... only the comic book version is MUCH less gay...
Honestly, if you had asked me if it were possible to make Green Arrow more gay, I would have laughed... but Smallville FOUND a way... and god bless them for it.

They really need to bring back Onomatopoeia. He was an awesome villain.
As I recall, A.J. Lieberman actually wanted to use him in Legends of the Dark Knight, but he was told her couldn't at the last moment, so he had to use Prometheus instead. This explains why Prometheus was shown as slightly bumbling and out of character in the story.

until they do...enjoy these scans of his villian escapades, followed by a moment in the hospital where Green Arrow shows how much of a badass he is (30 minutes, holding the arrow in onomatopoeia's mouth...200 lb pull longbow! w00t)

I dunno. I mean granted, I know hotter girls than that Lois, but she certainly doesn't look too terribly mannish to me.
"Hey, there, Bruiser," Lex murmured, as Clark smothered a chuckle. "Open up." He nudged the tip of the bottle into the impossibly tiny mouth. "Ah...that's right," he breathed as the puppy began to sip, "Good dog."
Good god.

Im sure Winick was really brainstorming after this one. Poor Mike Carlin was probably barricading his door. "Don't even try Winick!"
Bottom line, he's not a terrible writer, just a terrible Green Arrow writer at the moment. My opinion..of course.
