(My) Birthday gift ideas

So my birthday is coming up.
I don't know what to ask for. My dad asked me if I'd be down for a canoe. Ok there's one.
I'm thinking stuff like books, cd's, movies.
I just bought Warhammer, Fallout 3, played fable 2, are there any other games coming out soon that are good?
I Read Steven Erickson, George R.R. Martin, Kurt Vonnegut and am starting to get into more classic authors. I'd like to work on more of a classical literature collection, but i'm not big on poetry and shakespeare.
Seriously, anything you guys think is cool.

Stuff is usually just stuff. Do something with your family you'll remember for the rest of your life.

Also, I'm a fan of gift cards because a card for a music/book store will always get used.

Eh I'd like to do something with my family, but it's nigh impossible to find a day where everyone is free.
Also our relationship is a but tumultuous, we all suffer from short tempers and can't stand each other the majority of the time.

Ask them to make a donation to Child's Play for you. If you can't think of anything you need/absolutely want, why just ask for something for the sake of asking for something?

Well if you are going to get a canoe you obviously know the important reasons to own a canoe.

But Mully is right, why don't you just say a canoe is a fine gift and donate the rest of the money you were going to spend on charity or don't buy anything at all and just save money?

Vonnegut Books that are must reads:

    Mother Night
    The Sirens of Titan
    Cats Cradle

    All three of those books...phenomenal.

No, he hasn't. I'll recommend more traditional stuff then (books by the same author are on the same line seperated by commas):

    Catch-22, Closing Time
    A Confederacy of Dunces
    Snow Crash, Cryptonomicon
    Neuromancer, Spook Country
For Whom the Bell Tolls/The Sun Also Rises/A Farewell to Arms
    The Invisible Man
    Brave New World
    1984
    Absurdistan
    Motherless Brooklyn
One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich

Ah fuck, I wanted to link that. :(

If he's offering to buy a canoe, why not ask for a geeky gadget like an iPhone or Android phone?

This is the strangest list of Vonnegut recs. I've ever seen. Of course, I'm of the opinion that everything he writes is a must read. Both of his collections of short stories are some of my favorite, as well as Breakfast of Champions.

Aside from that, do you need anything practical? Shoes, jacket, etc?
