Hey all,

I just finished putting together a build for a new PC. First time i turned it on it worked and went straight to bios, but it had no "beep" which i though was odd. I turned it on again and booted vista, installed some drivers and smaller programs, then turned it off. I then added a soundcard and some other stuff and went back into vista. Then i turned it off for about half an hour. So i had it running for about 3 hours.

I just turned it on again and it wont start, the fans go for a little bit then they stop and its off again. Nothing, nada. Actually scratch that, it works now but itll shutdown automatically before i can make it to windows. I have reset the cmos, reinserted everything except the power supply and the pentium chip/heatsink. But it does not ever go any farther than shutting down before windows starts.

SO, where do i go from here to fix such an issue?

here are the only things currently attached

Intel Pentium Quad Core 2 2.83
Gigabyte EP45-UD3R mobo
8 GB G.Skill DDRAM 800hmz (4x2) 5-5-5-15
Radeon HD 4850
Corsair 750 W power supply

Is it a brand new power supply? It could be dying. Or, it could be overloaded, not sure on your power needs with all that RAM and the video card.

(If it is new, try a spare?)

I'll second the power supply overload. Just out of curiosity, how much power does it kick out?

750W power supply? Thats a ton of juice. And Corsair is a good brand name. I'd say it's probably the mobo. Truth be told, I've had mroe than my fair share of problems with Gigabyte boards...

Well, the easiest way to troubleshoot is to pop a different power supply in there. If you've got the same problems, it's more than likely the motherboard. I've never used Gigabyte boards myself, but the computer getting to different points before it dies seems like a power supply issue... but the no beeps are odd too.

Either way, let us know what happens, I'm curious. :P

I had a very similar problem that was caused by sloppy installation of the processor (by me). One of the pins that held it in was loose, and this prevented the heat sink and/or fans from working properly or something, because the cpu would eventually overheat. Or rather, it would start to get uncomfortably warm then shut down the computer rather than risk damage.
