T-Mobile MyFaves (Cell Phone Thread)

My contract is up in Spring of '09, and I've been shopping around for a new phone. I'm pretty happy with T-Mobile itself, but my phone is.. well, craptastic. I've been looking at the Blackberry 8700. I text a ton (as in about 5,500 sent/received per month), and do talk on it some, but not that much. I use less than 300 minutes a month. I want something with good battery life, and being able to do neat internet stuff on it would be great.

Any suggestions as to what to take a look at and maybe buy would be appreciated.

As a former T-Mobile sales associate in the 1-800 call center, I would highly reccomend a Blackberry. They are one of the best devices that T-Mobile offers, and for someone who texts, it would be a great choice. It all depends on what you want to do with it though...

I would go to a website that allows you to compare phones side by side and see how they stack up against eachother. That way you get the phone with the features you want. The most common complaint with the Blackberry's is that they have TOO MUCH stuff, ie programs and stuff.

Dude, you guys have some of the best customer service. I have never had a single bad experience with T-Mobile(Mileage might vary obviously)

The obvious answer here would be the android, but eh...supposedly it doesn't have the greatest of battery life, and to truly take advantage of it you'll have to get a different, and probably more expensive plan.

I'm in the same boat, as right now I have a crappy motorola slider that I want to get rid of, but at the same time, it still works, so I might wait till my contract is up next year.

Excellent, thanks for the advice. ^_^ I love technology stuff. I'm also shopping for an HD tv but that is going to be a while, cause I'm rather... not rich. A phone is sort of in my price range, at least. A 42-56" HD tv is not. Bleh.

Unless you have some amazing spleen snapping upgrade from T-Mobile, I would suggest starting a new contract with AT&T with an iPhone. This phone goes beyond any phone or PDA ever made, and it works much better for texting than any other device I've used. The SMS app is also great for displaying all your texts in relevant trees like IM conversations, as opposed to an inbox format.

I'm not going to tell you to go out of your way for a phone, although if there ever was a phone justifiably worth that it is this one.

But if you're going to be spending more than 200 bucks on a new phone, it would be a crime against, like, yourself to not get an iPhone.

Android kinda meh's me out cause it doesn't seem to have a headphone jack.

You need to just go to an AT&T store and test out the iPhone as well as the blackberry. I have a Curve w/ T-Mobile; it's good for what it does. I text and email for work, and it is perfectly fine. However, if i could get a comparable plan with AT&T, i would switch to the iPhone in a second. Their plans just freakin suck. Hard. And Tmobile's support is pretty great.

The adapter to put 3.5mm headphones on an Android is less than $6, shipped.

For me the breaking point between the iPhone and the G1: T-mobile has reasonable plans and prices for those plans. AT&T's are ridiculous. The G1 with a 16gb microSDHC card (purchased separately) is still $50 less than a 16gb iPhone, but the plan for the iPhone with unlimited texts is over $350 more through the course of a 2 year contract, and it doesn't have the MyFaves thing.

I mean, if you really, really, really prefer the media player of the iPhone (I know I do) it might be worth it to just go for the iPhone, but for me the $15 a month is a big deal so I went with the G1, and I am very happy.

Yeah, the big deal with T-Mobile is how affordable their plans are. Even the upper tier one for the G1 is a great deal compared to the other ones around.

I have an 80 GB iPod so I don't need a phone for a portable media player. I don't actually talk on the phone that much, so the 300 min/my Faves plan actually works extremely well for me. Plus the picture messaging snafu with the iPhone kinda bugs me. I am going to go play with one for a little at a store anyway, though before choosing. I am already leaning towards the Blackberry and T-Mobile though, because I haven't had any problems with them thus far, and the people are pretty nice.

Yeah honestly if you're not looking for the iPod side of the iPhone, I think it's really no more ahead of other top tier phones. The G1's browser is just as good, IMO. Never used a Blackberry.
