SAMCRO: "Time for a change"

Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club, Redwood Original. Founded by 9 vietnam veterans, they are an outlaw group of bikers that sell guns and keep the streets of Charming, California free from meth. They're beseiged on by all sides, from rival motorcycle club, the Mayans, white supremacists (the Nords), corrupt cops, honest cops, the ATF, the One-Niners and the Real IRA. Sometimes, they cut the balls of child-raping clowns.

Currently, the best show on television. Its a black comedy meets a modern take on Shakespeare (Hamlet, in particular). Lets hit down the major players

sons_anarchy_240.jpg
Jackson "Jax" Teller, played by Charlie Hunnam. The vice president of SAMCRO and son of John Teller, one of the original 9 members of Sons of Anarchy. After finding one of his father's diaries, he has became wary of Clay and the direction the club is taking.

SOA_Ron_Perlman.jpg
Clay Morrow, played by Ron Perlman, is one of the original 9 members, and the current president of SAMCRO. A savvy businessman, to say the least. He's currently married to Jax's mom, and has a right hand man in Tig.

sons-of-anarchy-perlman-sagal.jpg
Gemma Teller-Morrow, played by Katey Segal (Married with Children, Futurama), is Jax's mom, and the wife of Clay Morrow. She's more entwined in club business than she lets on.

[eh, can't find a good picture]
Dr. Tara Knowles, played by Maggie Siff, was once Jax's high school sweetheart, but she grew tired of SAMCRO's control over Charming and the violence it entailed. She left for Chicago, but came back after an abusive relationship. Unfortunately, her boyfriend followed her back. Even more unfortunate, he's an ATF agent, and put SAMCRO's feet to the Fire.

And then you have the lovable idiots that make up the rest of SAMCRO. Tig, played by Kim Coates, is by far the dirtiest and most dangerous. There's Opie and his dad, Pinie. Halfsack, a prospect member, who lost a testicle in Iraq, and is a champion bare knuckle boxer. Juice, a Hispanic biker who once gave a junkyard dog meth when he was told to drug the dog. Chibs, a Scottish biker who acts as the club's medic. And finally, my favorite, Bobby Elvis, played by Mark Boone Jr. (view pic here) who is Jewish, and an Elvis impersonator on the weekends. He is the club's munitions expert, and because of his heritage, the club treasurer. Recently, on a hit gone bad, he was identified and the ATF has a warrant for his arrest.

Sons of Anarchy is on FX Wednesdays at 10 PM, and the first two episodes can be seen at Hulu, for those of you in America.

Was saving all of them for a marathon at the season's end, but my stupid DVR can only go up to 100% full. So I lost like seven episodes. Good to know it's coming to Hulu - I'll be happy to catch up soon.

As far as I can tell, Hulu only keeps them up for a certain period of time after they come out. Like they have the first two episodes, and the last three episodes, but nothing in between.

I haven't watched it, but it looks like probably the single best show on FX that is not The Shield.

If The Shield wasn't paying off 6 years of story lines at the moment then it'd be in a run for it's money for that title....it still wins but barely.

It's always sunny in Phidadelphia would like to have a word with you.

I never saw this show, just because I felt the promo ads didn't really make it seem interesting. Hell, it barely made it seem like there was any story.

Yeah, I was gonna skip this, but I went home one weekend, and my dad highly recommended it. It was on the 5th episode so I was able to catch up all the episodes, and I've been watching ever since. And, to be fair, it doesn't have one overlying plot, like Lost, but it has several related plot strings together. (Jax's kid, Cherry, Mayans, Opie and his family, etc)

Really great show, with some funny moments. (Compulsive Masturbation disorder?)

No, The Shield wins but this is damn fucking close. If this weren't the first season it'd be a much closer contest.

    Still....
Poor Opie. Fuck Tig, fuck him hard. The guy who was capping bad guys while you huddled on the floor in fear is totally working for the feds....fucking idiot.

This is one of the few shows I go out of my way to watch, it's good stuff. I watch it on Hulu so I think I'm probably a week or two behind the real arc, so I will start clicking some of these spoilers and discussing things when I'm sure the season is over.

I have questions about that last episode.
Wasn't Donna going to stay and help clean up? Where was she driving to in the truck, exactly, if Opie was taking the kids home? I feel like I must have missed this, or it's really sloppy. Also, am I really supposed to believe that Tig couldn't tell the difference between Op and Donna from a car length away? They should have just played the shooting out differently, that whole element felt pretty sloppy.

What the flaming fuck is wrong with Jax? He starts tappin' junkie ass when he's got an infinitely hotter, way better lady doctor? On a serious level, this plot "twist" felt pretty forced to me. I don't think this show really needs this relationship drama crap, and I think that Wendy is a weak character.

It will be interesting to see if Unser and Hale come down on Clay for letting that shit happen in Charming, the place they're supposed to be all about protecting. Which kind of brings up another problem: If they don't want shit to get into Charming, why fake the Niners putting a hit out on one of their own within town? Seems pretty off.

Maybe I'm just over thinking a lot, but the writing in these last few episodes seems to have been coming apart a bit.

Emma needed dish soap. I'd guess the plan was go home, tuck in kids then grab soap on the way back. Since Op was doing steps 1 and 2 she skipped to step 3.

Agreed on the Opie/Donna thing. Op is fucking huge and Donna isn't. That was really just the way it was presented though.

Eh, the junkie is his wife who presumably he was with for a few years. He was really hurt and feeling how horrible everything was and wanted comfort and familiarity. I think he's going to be really fucking pissed at himself though.

It wasn't a great plan but they were under a serious time constraint. They didn't trust Jax to watch his mouth around Op and Jax wouldn't have watched it around Op so....

Though Tig is still a fucking pussy for not talking with Clay about how the deal went down and how Op saved his ass a couple times in the fight.

The whole Wendy/Tara thing plays into one of my biggest complaint about this show: the "Gemma is always right" syndrome. No matter who argues with her, no matter what happens, that bitch always seems to get her way. I know it's supposed to be a representation of just how powerful a manipulator she can be, and just how devious she is, but it's not interesting if nobody ever stands up to her or takes her down a peg. As it is, you can tell exactly what will happen next on the show based on her desires.

I can't imagine anyone besides Tig standing with Clay in any disputes that would arise from this whole thing. Maybe not even Tig.

Did we ever find out whether he survived? Last I recall seeing him was when they dumped him in front of the ER. Doesn't matter in the long run, I suppose, just morbid curiosity.

    Oh, my.
Yes, I know Jax's dad is dead in a ditch as a result of a conflict with Clay. ;-)

I thought I remembered the torched ex-club member being dumped in front of the ER and his ex wife being notified, the night of the fair, exwife arrives, much sobbing ensues, etc. I don't, however, remember hearing about him at any point afterwards, and sometimes I wonder... Incredible episode, however, on par with the death of Tara's stalker.
