It's fun, but if you have someone that gets mad when another person messes with people which make them lose stuff, then it could be a problem.
My little cousin made my brother not want to play it ever again because he made him lose Force gems on purpose and then took them away (force gems are a quick way to get first place).
You can play singleplayer without a GBA. But I think multiplayer requires GBAs.
Thanks.
I'm interested in the multiplayer mode, so anyone else who would be able to shed some light on this?
Multiplayer absolutely requires GBAs and GBA to GC cables. If you buy the game new, it will come with one of those cables.
Not the Player's Choice ones.
To be honest, I think I've only seen the big-boxed version with the cable once, and the price on it was higher than buying the Player's Choice + a separate GC/GBA cable combined.

The awesome part of the game is that getting first place doesn't actually matter besides maybe the level indicating who last won it. The game encourages people to screw each other over for no reason whatsoever and then to resume cooperating immediately afterward.
Bahahahaha. My friends just bought this this summer and we had a session of it. It was amazing.
Oh dear god, this game will make you hate your friends SO HARD, but it is SO WORTH IT.
I was not allowed bombs, because any time I had bombs I killed everyone. I won almost every round, too, generally by over 500 force gems, even though I also always got the Hero of Darkness award.
Or, if you have some money to throw away, you can try a setup like this:
That is so AWESOME. Ridiculous, but AWESOME.
i don't understand what's going on in that video at all
The biggest hint is the schematic at the beginning.
Instead of playing through 4 GBAs, they are playing on 5 GCs with 4 GBA add-ons on 5 TVs, so instead of the individual screens showing up on tiny GBA screens, they have their own TV and instead of playing on GBA controls, they each get a GC controller.
I have 4SA and Minish Cap in the backlog, and if I have games in a series, then I've tried to go through them roughly in the order the games were released. However, if the games have a continuing story, then I'd want play them in the order of the story instead.
But then we all know how crazy continuity in the Zelda series can be. :P
From what I can tell while avoiding spoilers, Minish Cap would be the first game to play, then 4SA. So to get the most out of both games, like understanding small references, am I correct in thinking I should play Minish Cap first, and then 4SA?
Edit: I wonder how Pacman Vs. would play with that setup.

Well for Pacman Vs you only need 1 gba and it's pretty important that nobody else can see the screen so I don't think it would work very well.
Pacman Vs. is awesome.
Also, if you have a Micro you can make your own cable if you are handy with a soldering iron. I had the guy on that site make me a cable, cost $25 I think but was worth it considering I already had the Micro.
Also, the only games I can think of that use the GBA in this way are LoZ: FSA, FF:CC, and PacMan Vs. Are there others?
It doesn't matter which order you play it in. But if we're talking about chronologies, Minish Cap goes first, then Four Swords on the GBA, then Four Swords Adventures.
I think the only game where I got into worse arguments with friends was Crystal Chronicles because you REALLY have to work together to get any sort of powerful attacks going since you lose everything you got the past level. I don't think we ever made it very far in that game.

And there is always the one dumbass who can't get the spell timing right.
My friends and I beat Crystal Chronicles, but it was a long and horrible road. That game would have been a lot more interesting if you had character growth other than the relics you gain at the end of a level.
Four Swords was a much better experience with 4 people playing co-op.
Have they any plans for these types of games now that we can synch PSPs up with Ps3s?
I dare say it, a card game like Magic would be awsome with your hand and deck and mana pool on your screen and the playing field on the main.
Also keep in mind you can't use GB Micros unfortunately, only Vanilla and SPs.
You can use micros with a Micro to GBA adapter and a GBM link cable, it just won't be that confortable.
What kind of adapter is that? Is it an official one? (because I am too a-technical to even attempt soldering shit)
I do love the Micro so it would be awesome if it could be used with FSA after all.
It's definitely not official, but merely a hybrid of the Micro link cable and the GBA-GC adapter to route the wires to the correct pins. It was dumb of N to never make a cable for it.
I have seen them for sale in pretty nice shape (well done mods) on the internet.

Note: Don't have the least capable person as the healer because they don't think they could fight as well as you. Lesson learned! ;|

I'm pretty sure this has been tested and doesn't work. The GBA-GC cable draws power from the GBA, while the Micro->GBA cable doesn't have the power connection.

That's where the modding comes in, you have to rewire it to do certain things that the Micro->GBA cable doesn't normally support.
I wish that Nintendo would re-release this game on WiiWare with online multiplayer (local too, of course).
Or, hell, a new single player, 2d Zelda with the same graphic style.
Absolutely. This game with DS rather than GBA support would be fantastic. Especially as wiiware.
As for someone asking earlier about the story - there isn't much, but it is the precursor to minish cap (the legend of four sword is mentioned a few times).

One of my roommates bought a GBA: SP just so we could round out a group of 4 for this game.
And we never beat it because one person would get tired and want to quit so they would make the entire time impossible to do anything. Good memories, though.

Plus the pot mechanic in Crystal Chronicles was really annoying, especially if you didn't have four people. I tried playing through the game with my sister, and having to pick up that damn pot to advance and then put it down to fight was really frustrating. I would be willing to call it the single worst gameplay mechanic ever.

Yeah, Crystal Chronicles really worked better as either a single player or four player game. Anything in between was a bit tough.

So true... when I played Green was the responsible one, and Red was the guy who set people on fire and won every round.

It's not the games fault you couldn't figure out any puzzles and got us all killed and no one will talk to you anymore.
