About 7 years ago, while playing volleyball outside my back yard, I slipped into a dirt hole and sprained my left ankle. I got it checked out, bandaged up, healed later.
Except to this day, the injury has never fully healed. If I stand up for over an hour or so, either standing still or walking, I feel some sharp pain coursing through my left foot. It isn't enough to force me to sit down, but it becomes excruciating after a while, and it keeps me from pushing myself like I used to when it comes to exercising.
I've seen several doctors, but MRIs report nothing is broken, and therapy has only resulted in temporary relief. I once got an injection of cortisone that virtually erased the pain, but the doctor warned me it was only "numbing" the pain, and I shouldn't rely on annual doses.
All I've been able to do is ice it or heat it when things get too painful, but I'm tired of living with it. I'm not expecting any replies from doctors here, but if anyone could think up a new method I could try, or a type of exam I could get, I'd appreciate any tips.
Here's a pic of an ankle where I've circled the parts that hurt in red.
