Super Cool Gadgets and their Websites

precisionkprecisionk Registered User regular
I figure I would start up a thread for those looking to find show off their newest toy/gadget/weird thing they just bought.

To get the ball rolling, I am well aware of thinkgeek.com, but I am looking for other websites that sell weird things/gadgets/cool toys. Anyone have any suggestions?

    Cool watches at Tokyoflash.

I bought a Rogue and I've been pretty happy with it.

A lot of those are too bulky for me to actually wear and not feel like a huge dorkmo. The Rogue rides ninja style because it looks like a regular watch if you don't look too closely at the face. I've gotten a lot of complements on it as well. Some people even gave me their numbers. Well, dudes. Debt collectors actually.

Price changes daily with the exchange rate. I got mine at ~156? Visa/Mastercard will charge a 1% fee for converting currency on top of that. If you click the $ sign (the yen sign is highlighted by default) you can see what today's price is. $171. Ooch.

Man I wish watch makers didn't think that all digital watches have to be cheap and low quality or huge and gimmicky.

P.S. Should be "Gadgets" not "Gadget's".

Use apostrophe + s only for possessive, like "Jim's car."

You know what I suddenly find myself trying to find? A PDA-ish handheld computer that's actually a COMPUTER. Running a low-requirement version of Linux or something instead of Windows Mobile, so it can be used as more than a PDA.

Pandora is about the only thing similar I know of.

Well that or Netbooks. Maybe a G1.

Horribly expensive, though close to what I want. The issue is I want a small, PDA formfactor. Hardware-wise, they're near-perfect. I just want the right SOFTWARE pushing that hardware.

The pandora's close, and I want one a lot, but it's not exactly what I'm talking about.

I want to see some personal pics of the rogue. I think I'm almost sold on getting one, I was thinking about watches the other day.

Is there any drawback- IE: some sort of secret expensive ninja batteries that can only be sold in japan?

And why the fuck do they not have some sort of awesome watches that you can charge daily like a cellphone anyway?

Personal pics? I'll get some on here from my photobucket when I get back from work. It's very easy to see in natural light, the battery in it is a normal watch battery and according to the instructions will last for one year if you turn on the light to check the time 4 times a day. I almost never use the light, it's really easy to read in ambient light.

It's a standard "fancypants" watch in construction, I took it into a jeweler to get some links removed as it was far too large for my dainty wrists in its initial state and had no issue getting that done. It's got a nice shine to it.

You probably want the OQO or the Sony UX-series, both expensive.

    The Samsung thing is huge.

Edit: Links added. Also Dynamism imports many cool doodads seen in gadget blogs but not readily available in the U.S.

This crossed my mind earlier: does it indeed take a standard watch battery?

For the first time in my life, I actually have an incentive to keep an eye on the dollar-to-yen exchange.

I sent them an e-mail as their website is shockingly unhelpful, but no harm in asking here too, I guess. Any idea if those guys ship to the EU outside the UK? I see no reason not to, but fuck knows with small time shops.

    Rogue-1.jpg

I promised pictures, here you go. The 3.2MP phone camera fucks with the lightning on the front and makes it look a bit grimier than it is on the two left shots. I swab it every once in a while with some alcohol wipes (complementary at work, don't think that I would buy any..) to keep its shine all shiney. The two golden circles are where the LED light comes from, as you can sort of see in the picture the lighting is slightly uneven. It still looks cool, and it's not something that bothers me, just something I noticed if it may affect your purchase.

So to resurrect this thread since we were on the subject of the awesomeness that is tech toys. I received the Rogue watch from Tokyoflash, albeit in green and not the blue one shown above. It also has a metallic silver band and not the black band. I will try to throw up some pics.

Man that would be classy as shit.

Precisionk it's just poor lighting, both of the Rogues have the green LED. I would like to see the silver in action though. I get a ton of compliments on my watch, and a handful just asking how you read it. Would be great as a conversation starter if I weren't a functioning mute. My tongue is a vampire you see.

Oh really? I thought it came in two different colors. I will rock it tonight for the digital camera and post those pictures. Most people look at me like I am an alien from another planet when I am wearing it and ask me why I get it if I can't read it right away.

I got the reading down now like normal. They are just jealous me thinks.

My fiance got me the Infection watch instead of the Rogue but it's just as cool. The thing sits kinda high on my wrist but it doesn't get in the way so it's all good. The big thing is that the clasp thingie is cheap and the thing falls off my wrist constantly. I bought a different leather band to replace it but I haven't gotten around to replacing it yet and I don't know if I can so I may have to take it to a jewelers or something. It's cool as hell though, I love it! :D

Found it. Laurinda Spear Free Time Watch. There is a bit of flash that shows the movement. It is a little too much on the feminine side for my tastes than I remember, maybe there is another version out there.

It absolutely is. My zune is dead, so my wheel chock might as well color-coordinate. The stock kickstand is a pile of crap that everyone breaks the first day they own one.
