Once upon a time...

Deep within the walls of a gloomy castle in the equally gloomy land of Draxsylvania, the young, gifted opera singer Mona De Lafitte is held captive by her tormentor, vampire Baron Shrowdy von Kiefer. Ever since she was transformed into a vampire by Shrowdy and whisked off to Draxsylvania, her greatest wish has been to return to Paris, continue her singing career, and one day become a star at the Paris Opera.

When Shrowdy fails to return from a nightly foray, she at last sees an opportunity to flee. Together with her only friend and confidant, a cheeky bat named Froderick, she escapes from her prison and tries to find her way back to Paris. During her flight through Draxsylvania, where she encounters some strange inhabitants and some even stranger challenges, Mona must learn not only to accept her vampire nature, but also to use the abilities she has acquired to her advantage.

My initial reaction to these shots was repulsion that it looks more like AA'd 3D than the artwork that the initial shot left me thinking of. Still looks pretty classy though. I am terrible at actually finishing these games, and only managed to get through DotT and SoMI with walkthroughs.

    God yes!

Will be buying as soon as it's released. I have to admit i'm less than blown away by the screenshots, hopefully it will feel better when it's actually moving. Nevertheless with their pedigree i expect much enjoyment from this game. Long live the dead point and click genre!

Ugh. Just watched the trailer from their site. It has just killed any enthusiasm i had. The voice over was just irritating, and holy fuck do the 3d models look terrible. I assume they didn't hand animate to cut costs, but it just doesn't look good at all. Hopefully the demo will rekindle my interest when i get home from work.

well i have been patiently waiting for this game to come around, so i was glad to hear a demo was released. i have just come back from finishing the demo and i want to say its very... meh, i guess. i actually like the artwork, everything looks nice and clean but the voices. arrgghh. i want to slap the bat and rip the vampyres tongue out. the dialogue isn't very well written imo. theres hardly any wit and when there is, it sounds like its for a saturday morning cartoon. not what i was expecting. i was looking forward to comedy quips about items examined or picked up, and what is with this 'i dont want to pick that up but ill keep it in mind' business? it wasn't a problem in the demo as you're only in one rooom for it all, but i hope it doesnt span more than that in the full game, otherwise i foresee some backtracking through the game.

i realise this is still a demo, so the final game may well be better than that. eh, i might get it anyway cause im a sucker for point and click.

Yeah also the guy who was an 'employee' at lucasarts was actually an artist it seems, hardly a guarantee for a quality game. I'd be much more excited to see a game from the old lucasarts writers.

The humour in the trailer was pretty nonexistant too. That's what's most worrying. Humour is what makes these games enjoyable. Clicking on items multiple times just to see what amusing things are said.

Ah well, nearly home time when i get to play the demo, at least now my expectations are low!

Eeeeerk. I'm torn. Judging by the demo:

The writing is no Monkey Island but it will suffice.
It looks v pretty but animates a little stiffly, and the CG models and hand drawn art do not mesh particularly well.
Puzzles and interface seem fine from the short time in the demo.

    That voice! #Shudder#

My point-and-click loving core will push past many flaws play this game, but the main character's voice is truly a fucking abomination. Is that meant to be a French accent? Aural torture.

    Haha that was adorably bad!

I actually prefer point and click games not to have voices. Decent well written text that i can read at my own pace is much better if you ask me. Although having said that the voices in Simon the sorceror were fantastic.

In general I agree, but Grim Fandango and Full Throttle would have suffered horribly from losing the voices. Although I guess Grim Fandango wasn't technically a point and click game.

It really shouldn't be too difficult to get a sexy french female accented voice. It's the bloody stereotype!

Apparently the full game voices sounds totally different from the demo. Can anyone confirm/refute?

Oh wow, that is irritating. Mona's voice that is. For those of you who don't want to download the demo to hear it:

Where'd you hear that? Fabulous if true but sounds like wishful thinking to me.

I've decided to try to push past the atrocious voice and get the full game as the puzzle presented in the demo was of the kind of complexity that is lacking in the Telltale games. Telltale being pretty much my only source of point and click these days apart from freeware.

Buying this game. Can I get some form of boxed copy in the UK?

Also, will it run on my poor old Macbook (not macbook pro) with it's rather shoddy integrated graphics card, meagre 1gb of ram?

I was going to link you to Gameplay, who did have it listed as coming out in the next few days. However it just got pushed back to the suspiciously nebulous date of 30th Jan so I suspect there is no firm date for boxed UK release.

Edit: But I see the official site (which lists no minimum specs) is announcing it's UK release today. Confusion.

Anyway, anyone know if there is a download service can I buy this from in the UK then?

Further edit! Play.com claim to have it in stock and at £15 it's roughly half the price of the direct download options I've found.

Editamundo: Haha! Became unavailable whilst I was typing. Something is clearly up with the launch.

Err ... those videos just convinced me not to buy it. Is there an option to turn that silly bitch off and just have subtitles? The music sounds nice, but that voice? No chance.

I believe I speak for us all when I say Fuck Cedric. Seriously, that owl added nothing and was the biggest pussy besides. OOOOooo, I'm afraid of the forest, ooooo I'm too scared to wander into the desert, ooooo I'd better not go into bakery. Dick.

Did anyone ever do a proper Kings Quest 8? I... I own mask of eternity... but, well my therapist says I shouldn't talk about it.

The demo was a bit of a let down, Grim Fandango was one of my favorite games I wish something at that level would come out. Are there any other adventure games that look promising coming out?

If they put this on Steam I'd probably buy it just to confirm the voices for you guys. But I'm not sure I can be assed to get a boxed copy for this. In fact, I can't even tell where. I do love the artwork though.

I'm interested in playing the full version of this game, but I've got a pile of other stuff to go through right now. Once I get through it, I'll give it a shot.
