Animal rights activists PETA have launched a microsite entitled Cooking Mama: Mama Kills Animals which is designed to encourage consumers to contact Majesco, the North American publisher of popular casual title Cooking Mama, to voice their concerns on the ethical treatment of animals.
Play it: http://www.peta.org/cooking-mama/index.asp?c=pcmgb08
God bless you PETA.

I'm just curious as to what Cooking Mama or Majesco has to do with the ethical treatment of animals? Unless they're all a bunch of pussy vegetarians and they think eating meat is wrong and cruel, in which case fuck em.

I owned this game once. Played it for two days and then gave it to a friend. Not bad but certainly nothing with lasting appeal for me.

On the topic of PETA: Hahahahahahahahahaha. PETA is waging a war on preparing food.

    PETA "proving itself" batshit insane?

I thought they've already done that a long time ago!

That said this game is unintentionally hilarious.

I am pretty sure that most eggs used in cooking don't bleed lots of blood when cracked

Probably nothing, but animal activists have routinely made satirical riffs on recognizable brands/franchises to prove their point. I remember a few years back when the Meatrix was making the rounds:

    A) Shit like this makes me <3 PETA, for reasons that would infuriate them even further than normal.

    B) Do they realize that the existence of this "parody" game is both likely to drive sales of the thing they're ostensibly protesting and really only succeeds in making them look like escaped mental patients with an axe to grind?

I don't understand their complaint here. How is virtual cooking related to mistreating animals? Has Peta decided that eating any meat at all is the most horrible thing a human could do? Or maybe there's a "chop the chicken's head" mini-game i'm not aware of.

But they ARE escaped mental patients with an axe to grind. No normal, sane person could come up with this shit. I mean comon, the Meatrix? :D

Granted PETA does do some good things for the treatment of animals, this is pretty far off the fucking scale.
I know theyre trying to tap into our generation here, but really Cooking Mama?
Really, is Cooking Mama even widely known? Why not pick something that people actually recognize?

I'm mind-blanking on the exact saying, but I think it sounds something like this:

"True fundamentalism is indistinguishable from satire."

Thank you, PETA, for helping keep a witty saying alive and active.

If PETA hates food preparation so much, shouldn't they go after McDonalds for crimes against the human tastebud and force them to make the McRibb a permanent part of the menu?

    Or perhaps a 'continues.'

The parody game, incidentally, is pretty awful. I mean, if you're going to make a flash game, you might as well make it responsive.

*edit* They're not protesting Cooking Mama. They're using Cooking Mama in an unauthorized manner to protest eating Turkey on Thanksgiving. Expect Cease and Desists.

Oh hey, let's give PETA more attention why don't we.

The most interesting thing about this is that they actually used the Cooking Mama name, which with my limited knowledge of copyright and parody puts them in trouble. Although I don't doubt they have lawyers as equally insane as they are.

That's a good point, since I can't see how this doesn't violate at least a few laws (but I'm not law-ist-type, so I may be wrong).

Peta2 is even trying to distance themselves from the originators. If you see a Peta2 petitioner at an event, and so much as mention PETA1, they'll talk about how Peta2 has a "different, more realistic approach."
