Mac/Cam for HD video production

Alright. I'm looking to build a multimedia studio. I'm used to working with a Canon XH-A1, editing in Finalcut Express on a MacPro 2.1. I'd like to produce similar results, but I need to shave about 2 grand off my costs. This is a shot in the dark asking here, but it seems there's an expert for everything around PA, so I thought I'd ask here while I look everywhere else. The MacPro is a beast of a machine, and I hesitate to try to cut value out there. Are there any cheaper alternatives in video equipment? For instance, the XH-A1 can shoot in HD, but I still don't think that I'll necessarily need HD video in the next five years.

My overall goal is a personal studio that can quickly produce reasonably high quality video for net distribution.

What is this I don't even.
