Youthful Saturdays and Spiral Galaxies

So I finally got around to listening to M83's (named after a spiral galaxy, or so Last.fm tells me) latest effort, Saturdays=Youth. For those who are unaware, they are a French electronic group, who also did Before the Dawn Heals Us and Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts, to name just a couple.

In short, this album rocks. Seriously, go out and buy it now and bask in their nostalgic take on the '80s. Highlights of the album so far include 'Kim & Jessie' and 'Graveyard Girl', but a few more listens of the album will surely add to that list.

Kim & Jessie:

Graveyard Girl:

There's a few in SE++ who would definitely dig this album, so I thought I would alert them to this.

i like graveyard girl, mostly because the music video i saw on mtv2 reminded me so much of some kind of wonderful, where the unpopular tomboy girl lands the guy of her dreams and whatnot. good stuff.

also, hey, speaking of random french bands, felipecha is pretty good

That felipecha video makes me think of Gogol Bordello. I've recently been listening to Super Taranta!, his only album that I really liked.

    This guy. Serious business.

I looked through most of M83's music a while back and found I only somewhat enjoyed 3 songs, and even those really didn't blow me away. Someone here on the forums turned me on to Pendulum. Hold Your Colour is a stupendous album, even if the song the album is named after is one of the weakest on it.

    Slam

I have this song to thank for the Late Boomer trophy in Super Stardust HD.

I haven't been able to stop listening to Sigur Ros since getting into them maybe a month ago. Acutally, Last.fm says I've listened to them 167 times in the last week, but I synched my iPod in a while, so it could be more.

Wow that is actually good music. This is super sad after hearing how he ended up playing a gig, due to rain, in the smallest lobby area of some hotel with something like 3-7 people in attendance. Poor little feller.

Look, you want to help his band out, give their myspace page view counts, request songs of theirs on kexp.org (you can email the on-air DJ at dj@kexp.org) and attend shows if you're local.

the singer's voice reminds me of interpol

in general there are a lot of influences from bands i like, like interpol and shins and killers and such

    good stuff :^:

edit: in general i find that a lot of garage bands sound average if not shitty, but i do genuinely like them! there's a certain polish to it i don't usually hear.

    I had seven faces
thought i knew which one to wear
But I'm sick of spending these lonely nights
    training myself not to care
    the subway is a porno
And the pavements they are a mess
i know you've supported me for a long time
    somehow i'm not impressed

I personally could never really dig M83. I listened to both Before the Dawn and Dead Cities each once and never really bothered listening to them again.

Sigur Ros on the other hand are bloody magnificent. Agaetis Byjurn is up there with the likes of Remain in Light, Liquid Swords, and Leaves Turn Inside You in my list of "The Best Fucking Albums I Have Ever Listened To."

Before the Dawn... I really enjoy. I have not listened to any of the others though. I think I will pick up Saturdays next time I'm out.

    Sigur Ros are also solid.

Oh hello thread of my dreams.

There's yet to be a band posted that I dislike.

On that note, everyone should check out Glacier Hiking. I post about these guys a lot but damn, like every day I have a song of theirs stuck in my head. If you dig it, you can get the tune "Shotgun" for free at their site.

Fujiya and Miyagi are also pretty cool guys. They are a British Kraut rock band with a Japanese name, who sing about buying new shoes, amongst other things I guess:

Well I wouldn't change the channel if they came on the radio, but none of those songs really held my attention more than a minute or two.
